Sometimes the reversal of fortune that can happen in the film industry is absolutely staggering to behold. A prime example is what happened to Orion Pictures. In the late 80s and early 90s, they churned out films like “Crimes and Misdemeanors,” “Dances with Wolves,” and “The Silence of the Lambs” amongst other Oscar winners and nominees. Sometimes life moves a lot faster than you think it does. 2025 marks 11 years since the fatal accident that claimed the life of camerawoman Sarah Jones on the set of “Midnight Rider.” The subsequently cancelled film was being directed by Randall Miller, and was literally on its first day of filming when the accident happened. Due to Miller’s part in Jones’ death, he pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and was sentenced to ten years of prison and probation. It’s hard to believe that it’s been almost 3 and a half years since the tragic on set death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. She was shot while filming scenes for the Western film “Rust.” There should have been safety procedures and oversight in place to avoid this kind of tragedy from occurring. That was clearly not the case, and there are still many questions unanswered. It is with a very heavy heart that we report the passing of one of the greatest actors in the history of Hollywood. Gene Hackman has passed away at his home in New Mexico. The loss is even more emotionally devastating in that Hackman’s wife, Betsy Arakawa, and their dog were also found deceased as well.
