Sabrina Sutherland, a long time collaborator and producer of some of David Lynch‘s masterpiece “Twin Peaks,” recently did a Q&A on Tulpa. Tulpa, A Lynch, Frost & Twin Peaks Community is the mind hive that many “Twin Peaks” fans frequent for discussions and news regarding their favorite franchise.
During the interview, Sutherland answered some pertinent fan questions. Things like…if the end of season 3 of the iconic series was meant as a finale, or as a possible tease into a new story.
“I personally hope there will be more. As for the intention, I don’t know,” Sutherland said. “I know that David has more ideas for another season, but I don’t know about Mark.”
While Sutherland didn’t go into what those ideas are, we are excited none-the-less about the prospect of a fourth season. When season three came out, fans were holding their breath. Being set 25 years after the original Laura Palmer case hit the quiet town of Twin Peaks, we weren’t expecting it to be nearly as good. It was an incredible addition to the series and one that really highlights David’s directing abilities. It came out streaming on SHOWTIME in May of 2017, and then had a physical media release later that year in December.
He’s said before that cable television is the new hotness in media consumption, and that he’s most interested in doing shows and movies for that platform.
“I really love a continuing story, and cable television I say is the new art house,” Lynch told Far Out Magazine. “You have total freedom. The sound isn’t as good as a great theatre; the picture isn’t as big — but TVs are getting bigger and bigger and better and better, so there’s hope. And then you have this chance for a continuing story, so it’s the new art house, I say.”
While season three seemed to wrap things up pretty cut and dry that’s not to say that Lynch isn’t holding on to some great ideas about a season four. Season four could hold more clues about what happened to Laura, or perhaps another unsolved murder with themes similar to Laura’s death could be revealed.
Obviously, we don’t know for sure if another season would ever happen. But there ARE many different routes Lynch could go if he was so creatively inclined. You can catch all of “Twin Peaks” streaming on Paramount+.
