At this point, saying the words “Bill Murray” is a statement more than a name. The actor’s reputation is legendary for both his oddball persona and his intense privacy. The man is a cantankerous old coot and we love him for it. On one hand, he is well known for being difficult to work with and being an intense personality to be around. While on the other, he is known to just randomly show up at frat parties or weddings just for his own amusement. Murray relishes the contradiction of being a comic icon while also making movies where he…

Over the course of it’s life, Comic-Con has become less a celebration of comics and more a platform for movie studios to announce their next projects. It has kinda come to represent how movies and comics have become a singular entity, especially as superhero movies have dominated the box office. We now live in a world where a person can identify as a Marvel or DC fan and never actually read a comic book. While I have some, er, opinions about that, I am mostly just happy that people all over the world love these characters the way I do.…

The world got a little bit darker this past March when Alex Trebek announced he had stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Normally, that type of cancer has only a 9% survival rate, leading to many fans, and even Trebek himself, to fear the worst. However, the long time Jeopardy host vowed that he would fight back with treatment and continue working for as long as he was able. While he still has a long way to go in recovery, today he announced he has made significant progress by declaring his cancer is in “near remission.” In an interview with People magazine,…

In the wake of the Disney/Fox merger, a lot of questions were still up in the air about many of Fox’s tentpole properties. Given Disney’s family friendly reputation, it was unclear whether they even cared about anything that did not fit their brand. Would we ever see the Reign of Fire that I have been pushing for these past 17 years? Well now we have rumblings from Ridley Scott about one of Fox’s most well known properties. Scott has been making the press rounds to celebrate Alien’s 40th anniversary and has hinted he is not done with the franchise. According…

Disney as a company has never been shy about recycling old ideas. Plenty of easy jokes have been made about how they are remaking pretty much their entire renaissance era in live action. The truth is that they have pretty much started on taking older stories and then putting a fresh spin on it, starting with Snow White. Everything from Disneyland to their “Disney Vault” has been a strategy to make their movies feel special and stoke nostalgia. Hell, Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King were already remade as Broadway shows years before their recent remakes. So while…

Ever since news broke that HBO and Damon Lindelof were doing an adaptation of the graphic novel Watchmen, information on what that would actually look like has been…scarce. The classic graphic novel by Alan Moore carries a ton of baggage over whether it is even possible to make something that captures the epic spirit of the series. There has been a vocal group of people, myself included, that felt the only way to make a live action version would be as a TV series to capture all the details. When the show was finally announced in 2017, fans held their…

David S Goyer has made the rounds announcing that he is planning on writing and producing a new version of Hellraiser for the newly reborn Spyglass Media Group. The Hellraiser series has been dormant for several years now after having treading water in the dregs of direct to video hell. Having a guy like Goyer producing means that, at the very least, it will have a Hollywood vet behind the project. That being said, there are not many people I would want on this project less than a guy like David Goyer. While the guy has been around for literally…

If you are like any other living breathing person odds are you have seen or at least heard of the Simpsons. One of the best scenes from the shows golden age (Seasons 3-9 Forever!) is the episode 22 Short Stories about Springfield. In this season Seven Segment you are able to watch as Principal Skinner invites Superintendent Chalmers over for an unforgetttable Luncheon. When it all goes awry however, Skinner finds himself in a pickle where he now has to lie away the fact that he one, wasn’t making steamed clams after all, and two, there is a raging fire…

One of the best parts of Star Wars Celebration has been seeing how a massive group of fans can come together in a positive and supportive way. While there is no such thing as a fandom without their bad apples, most of what we have seen coming out of this years event has been mostly uplifting. For example, while Rose Marie Tran had to quit social media because of constant harassment, she was given a heroes welcome when she came on the stage with JJ Abrams. Another moment of fans showing the best side of themselves came when Ahmed Best…

I think at this point it is safe to declare that Deep Space Nine is still the undisputed best Star Trek show. It took a long time for me to admit that fact and that my beloved Next Generation is only second best. While the other shows in the canon provide an inspirational tribute to the best of humanity, DS9 pushes back on everything being flowers and rainbows. What keeps the show from being a grimdark slog is how we follow a group of flawed, disparate people find a way to get along and form a bond that fights against…
