Google Earth has long been established as a site for people to explore the far flung corners of the world or to see what their childhood home looks like today. While it is a fun novelty, it usually gets boring seeing how Google as a company has digitized all that we see and hear. The company has recently added a mini game to the site to entice old school gamers and some young Netflix watchers to hang out for a minute. The application has added a familiar red hatted “heroine” on the bottom of the page for people to click…

For the past few months, Nintendo has been rounding out their paid Switch Online service with a smattering of games from the NES era. In the tradition of Nintendo frequently hyping things that is then quickly forgotten, it does not feel like the company has much invested in it. While it is nice to have classics Super Mario Bros. 1-3 and stuff like Excitebike on my system, a lot of the library is a little more obscure. A couple of the releases have even been just straight up mods of existing titles that allow one to start The Legend of…

The Alien franchise has had a, well, rocky history. The original 1979 film is a landmark film that inspired countless knock offs. Its subsequent sequels have run the gamut between stellar to…uh…less than stellar. Aliens is a classic in its own right but it had the benefit of having a director like James Cameron who understands action movie tropes better than anyone in Hollywood. The whole series has suffered from numerous attempts to capture the original magic in movies, comics and video games. The one arena that Alien hasn’t invaded has been television, which, for a long time, made sense…

One of the odder parts parts of our magical internet age is how popular brands have developed sentience. Social media has provided a way to show customers that faceless multinational conglomerates are just like you and me. The result of this has been mixed with some companies able to handle it better than others. For every company like Arby’s with their fun anime nerd twitter feed, we also have Sunny Delight having a fake existential crisis. While the debate rages on over whether this proves that capitalism has truly run amok, we can at least have some fun with the…
