In 1984, William Gibson released his debut novel and cyberpunk staple, “Neuromancer.” Last month, Apple TV+ announced a 10-episode limited series adaptation of his groundbreaking work. It has now been confirmed that BAFTA Award-nominee Callum Turner (“Masters of the Air”) will lead the cast!

The “Neuromancer,” series will follow damaged, super-hacker, Case (Turner) who is thrust into a web of digital espionage and high-stakes crime. With the aid of his partner Molly, a razor-girl assassin with mirrored eyes, they must pull off a heist on a corporate dynasty with untold secrets. It is created by Graham Roland (“Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan”) and JD Dillard (“The Outsider”). Roland will act as showrunner and Dillard will direct the pilot episode.
The show will be produced in collaboration between Skydance Television, Anonymous Content, Apple Studios, and Drake’s DreamCrew Entertainment. The executive producers will be Roland Dillard, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Matt Thunell from Skydance Television, alongside Drake, Adel ‘Future’ Nur, and Jason Shrier from DreamCrew Entertainment, Anonymous Content, Zack Hayden, and Gibson.
Gibson’s Involvement
Shortly after it was announced, Gibson clarified his involvement with the series on X (formally Twitter). “I answer showrunner’s and director’s questions about the source material,” he wrote. “I read drafts and make suggestions. And that’s it, really, though my previous experience has been that that winds up being quite a lot of work in itself.”
He also assures fans that the series will not be exactly like the book. “Particularly not the one you saw behind your forehead when you read the book, because that one is yours alone.”
“Neuromancer” was not only Gibson’s first novel but one of his most critically acclaimed. So far it has earned a Nebula Award, Philip K. Dick Award, and Hugo Award. It is the first book in the Sprawl trilogy followed by “Count Zero” and “Mona Lisa Overdrive.” Apple TV doesn’t seem to have plans to adapt the other two novels, but who knows what may happen if this limited series is successful enough.
There is no set release date for Apple TV’s “Neuromancer” series, yet. We’ll keep you posted on updates about this project as they become available.
