On Sunday, Netflix announced that production has wrapped in Atlanta on the live-action series Scooby-Doo: Origins. The show is a modern reimagining of the legendary mystery-solving gang and their special dog. The streamer plans to release it sometime in 2027.
“During their final summer at camp, old friends Shaggy and Daphne get embroiled in a haunting mystery surrounding a lonely, lost Great Dane puppy that may have been a witness to a supernatural murder. Together with the pragmatic and scientific townie, Velma, and the strange, but ever so handsome new kid, Freddy, they set out to solve the case that is pulling each of them into a creepy nightmare that threatens to expose all of their secrets,” the logline reads.
Scooby-Doo: Origins stars McKenna Grace as Daphne Blake, Tanner Hagen as Shaggy Rogers, Abby Ryder Fortson as Velma Dinkley, Maxwell Jenkins as Fred Jones, and Paul Walter Hauser as Scooby-Doo’s owner. Scooby will be played by a real Great Dane, a franchise first. Not an easy feat for an over-55-year-old franchise.
The cast also includes Rusty Schwimmer, Peter Macon, Jona Xiao, Dani Deetté, Elysée Sanvillé, Alex Isles, Avery Kristen Pohl, Pamela Mitchell, Ross Kimball, Sara Gilbert, Wynn Everett, Sauriyan Sapkota, Bruce McGill, André Benjamin, and Cathy Moriarty.
Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg write, showrun, and executive produce the series. Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Leigh London Redman also executive produce via Berlanti Productions alongside Toby Haynes. André Nemec, Jeff Pinkner, and Adrienne Erickson executive produce for Midnight Radio. Warner Bros. Television also backs the project.
