Missing Link is the latest film from Laika Studios (Coraline, Paranorman, The Box Trolls, Kubo and the Two Strings). It tells the story of a lonely sasquatch, Mister Link (voiced by Zack Galifianakis), who asks famous adventurer Sir Lionel Frost (voiced by Hugh Jackman) to take him to live with his cousins, the Yeti. Marvel’s Endgame has done it again. Earning $60 million dollars in its Thursday night previews, Endgame has taken the top spot for Thursday previews away from Star Wars: The Force Awakens record of $57 million in 2015. Since the Thursday preview could count toward its opening day figures, it is highly likely that come Saturday morning Endgame will have also unseated The Force Awakens ($119.1 million) for highest opening day total. I was lucky enough to get tickets to a Thursday showing of Endgame. Not wanting to spoiler anything, I will give just some general comments on the movie. With a large cast of characters and a rich cinematic history, the Russo brothers had a tough job trying to bring the current phase of the MCU to a close with Infinity War and Endgame. May is shaping up to be monster month. On May 31 Godzilla will battle Mothra, Rodan, and Ghidorah for supremacy in Godzilla: King of the Monsters. But before that on May 10 the pocket monster Pokemon will have their live-action film debut in Detective Pikachu. Sony has moved the launch of its live-action reboot of Masters of the Universe to 2020. This may be a good thing for the movie, as the December 18, 2019 premiere date set back in 2017 would have had it sandwiched between Sony’s Jumanji 3 and Disney’s Star Wars 9. Possible 2020 dates might be sometime in June or August. Masters of the Universe is set to start production in July 2019 in Prague. It will be directed by Adam and Aaron Nee. Some headway has been made in the quest to bring the movie The Six Billion Dollar Man to theaters. The movie is a reboot of the TV series The Six Million Dollar Man, with some allowance for inflation. Mark Wahlberg was set to star in the film back in November 2014 but decided to star in Deep Water Horizon first. Stuff happened, directors changed, and eventually, Warner Bros acquired the rights to the film from the Weinstein Company in 2017. Okko’s Inn is coming to theaters on April 22 (dubbed version) and 23 (subtitled version). The 94-minute film follows young Okko when she moves to the country to live with her grandmother following her parents’ death. Her grandmother runs an inn that is built upon an ancient spring with healing properties. Okko soon realizes that the inn is haunted by spirits, but these are friendly ghosts that only she can see.
