I started watching Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers in 1994 and it quickly became one of my favorite shows. It had a blend of everything; corny drama, good looking actors, Japanese monster fight footage, transforming sentai action, and awesome robotic Megazords. All in all, a near perfect show in a nine year old’s eyes. But one thing always stood out to me: the show’s choice of villain. First we had Rita Repulsa, or Bandora as she was known in the original Japanese Zyuranger footage. She was gorgeous, outlandish, always yelling, and that staff sure knew how to make those monsters grow. She was taken off…

Batwoman is already scheduled to visit the Arrowverse for the annual crossover event in December; she may now become a permanent member of it, expanding the universe and breaking some TV ground in the process. The CW has put in development a Batwoman series for 2019 consideration. It hails from former The Vampire Diaries executive producer Caroline Dries and the architect of the CW Arrowverse, Greg Berlanti. Deadline reports that Batwoman already has been a trailblazer for LGBTQ+ representation in comics. After a long hiatus, she was reintroduced to the DC comic universe in 2006 when she was established as a Jewish lesbian (COMMENCE SCREAMING AND CHEERING), becoming the first-ever lesbian superhero title…

The new version of She-Ra, upon the sneak peek reveals, looks quite different from the ’80s series many people grew up with. Good thing, bad thing, who knows at this point. But I will say this- aesthetically, the new She-Ra does look like a warrior lady. Young girls and women undoubtedly continue to need representation of strong, amazing women. Whether its because we all have the capacity to be our own warrior or the 80s is apologizing for their pandering attempt at a “girl’s hero”, there’s definitely a draw to She-Ra that makes her an excellent candidate for a revival. Here…

China’s First $100M Film Pulled From Cinemas After Disastrous Opening Weekend. Per The Hollywood Reporter, Chinese fantasy epic Asura was promoted as China’s most expensive film ever made, with a production budget of over $110 million (750 million yuan). So perhaps it’s unsurprising that the film’s producers, which include Jack Ma’s Alibaba Pictures, decided to take desperate action after the movie opened to just $7.1 million over the weekend. Late Sunday evening in Beijing, Asura’s official social media accounts posted a simple statement saying that the film would be pulled from cinemas as of 10 p.m. local time. After landing in theaters with limited…

The official Uncharted movie may be stuck in development hell forever, but actor Nathan Fillion and his crew have made their own 15-minute cinematic tribute to the iconic action-adventure franchise. The official film, should it ever come out, will star Tom Holland as a young Nathan Drake. The movie is now reset as a prequel. Kotaku agrees that Fillion’s short fan-film is just about everything you’d want from an Uncharted movie: witty quips, fun twists, esoteric history references, and even a pivot to Video Game Mode for a gun fight. The entire 14.5 minute short can be seen right here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=1&v=v5CZQpqF_74 What do you…

Great bands, great music. Those two are synonymous. Great bands, great album covers? Well, that’s not always the case. Terrible band, terrible album cover? Sure, that’s a digestible reality to accept. Terrible band, amazing album cover? Okay, now we’re dizzy. Let’s just count down some weird album cover art. 1) The Scorpions Can’t Get Out of Creep-Mode It almost goes without saying that Scorpions is one of the greatest rock bands of all time. With hits like “Rock You Like a Hurricane”, “No One Like You”, “Big City Nights”, and “Winds of Change” the band is a rock and…

Tom Hardy has shared his thoughts on Venom and Eddie Brock’s strange relationship in Sony’s upcoming film. Speaking to EW, Hardy said he thinks Eddie and Venom’s relationship is similar to Ren and Stimpy’s from the classic animated series. “It’s a bit like Ren and Stimpy, you know?” Hardy said. “They have different sounds. I always saw Venom as sounding like a James Brown lounge lizard, and Eddie Brock is kind of…I don’t know, an everyday kind of guy. But he’s inherited this massive ego, this beast.” The result is a black-and-white hero whose morals are anything but. “There’s that biting-off-heads issue,”…

Video game hardware and software creators like to showcase the capabilities of their systems. When you have a system as complex as one that creates video games, you want to make sure the public knows of said system’s limits. And in order to do that, publishers and hardware creators make Tech Demos to demonstrate how amazing upcoming games will (or are able to) look on the system. Sometimes, these Tech Demos are in the form of playable demonstrations. Other times, it’s simply a video or trailer generated on the system to tease a new engine or something. But regardless of…
