Filmmaker Addison Binek has been hard at work shooting the sequel to his second cult hit, Magnum Opus: The .MOVie. His follow-up, Magnum Opus Presents: Magnum Foodus, is moving into the final stages of filming. Now, Binek is teasing a huge finale starring Bill Weeden (Sgt. Kabukiman N.Y.P.D.).
Magnum Opus: The .MOVie is described as Boyhood meets Jackass, following the director and his friends as they do sometimes dangerous stunts. This film starts as a group of preteen boys slowly morphs into teens and young adults. Since the bulk of this was shot in the 90s/early 2000s, the film becomes a time capsule down to all of the stock changes from the different media Binek shot on.
Magnum Foodus grows this concept up a bit by trying to be a film version of “Weird Al” Yankovic’s The Food Album. Except this has way more wrestling, waterboarding, vomit, and swearing. Like the first film, it will be a video diary but spanning slightly over a year as the director travels to events like GrossFest, Living Dead Weekend, and the last Cinema Wasteland.
Magnum Foodus
As the name suggests, Magnum Foodus is predominantly food-based stunts, often performed by members of the independent film community. Like Carly Sonafelt, drinking a whole bunch of gross sodas at Cinema Wasteland for our amusement. Or Daryl Hook, Mel Heflin, and Dan Komarek attempting to eat 20 cheap, undercooked hot dogs at Grossfest.
But for those of you not into food stunts, Annie Hook gets a tattoo of naked Bill Weeden from Psycho Ape 2. Steve Rudzinski waterboards himself dressed as Spider-Man. Sean Donohue performs the knife trick from Aliens with plastic cutlery. Not to mention a dozen LARPers beating up the director.
As it stands, Magnum Foodus has 23 segments and runs about 108 minutes. It currently ends with something we’ll only refer to as the “rainbow vomit scene.” However, Weeden and the director are teasing a much bigger ending. Our only clue is Weeden dressed up like a baby.
The filmmaker is currently asking fans to help finance travel from Detroit to New York City to shoot Weeden and put the final touches on this glutinous masterpiece. At the time of this writing, he has raised $315 of his $500 goal. You can donate to Magnum Opus Presents: Magnum Foodus here.
