It’s hard not to love Cheetos. They’re crunchy, they’re snacky, and they’re cheesy — some might even say dangerously so. But they also produce that layer of sticky orange dust that clings to your fingertips and threatens to stain everything you touch forever. It takes a certain kind of person to enjoy Cheeto fingers — and it takes an entirely different, more creative kind of person to look at that build up of sparkly salt crystals and orange cheese build up and think “this would make a killer nail polish.” Apparently the people who work at Claire’s are the second…

“Why does every disaster movie start with someone in power ignoring a scientist? Because it happens more than you might think. But it doesn’t have to go down that way.” That’s the introduction Bill Nye offers in the first trailer for the six part docu-series that Seth MacFarlane announced last month. The series hails the minds of Nye, MacFarlane, and writer/director Brannon Braga. Streaming on Peacock, “The End is Nye” will investigate six different world-ending disasters- both natural and unnatural – that could potentially happen and propose scientific solutions that could help us prevent them. In the trailer, we can…

A San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) panel revealed some concrete details about the first of three animated movies coming from Paramount+ and Nickelodeon, focused on the “Avatar: The Last Airbender” series. You probably already know about “Avatar: Braving the Elements,” the re-watch podcast hosted by the franchise’s voice actors Janet Varney (Korra in “The Legend of Korra”) and Dante Basco (Prince Zuko in “Avatar: The Last Airbender”). While Varney was unable to attend the convention due to an ongoing illness, she did appear in a video that played during the panel. She noted some of the rumors that had been circulating…

You read that headline correctly. A convention in the Kansas township of Salina hosted, among its numerous other events, a cosplay competition. At the end of the event, they awarded several prizes, concluding with what the presenter called Worst in Show. This is, of course, maddening. People who make costumes for conventions do so for all kinds of reasons. Some do it professionally, advertising their skill and drawing attention to their abilities so that they can take on commissions. Other do it as a hobby, constructing pieces and collaborating with a larger community of costumers along the way as they…

We have just gotten a glimpse of the upcoming “Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur” animated show that will be premiering on Disney+. The clip, which premiered at San Diego Comic-Con, gives us a taste of the overall tone of the show, some excellent voice acting from our leads, and a clear path forward. Definitely aimed at a younger audience, the animation is quick and colorful, with Moon Girl’s goggles emoting along with her. The clip focuses on Moon Girl (voiced by Diamond White) and her friend Casey (Libe Barer) trying to take on a pair of burglars. It’s clearly early…

For those who aren’t aware, quidditch is an actual sport you can play in real life. Having originated in J.K. Rowling’s “Harry Potter” series, the real-life version involves straddling broomsticks and running around with balls across a pitch rather than flying through the air. It’s sort of like rugby on hobby-horses, and it’s become massively popular in the US. Three major organizations that promote and manage the sport are changing the name of the game to quadball. The International Quidditch Association (IQA) and US Quidditch (USQ), which are governing bodies for the sport, joined Major League Quidditch (MLQ), a semi-professional…

The James Webb Telescope, which was recently used to capture those stunning pictures of the universe, has sustained “significant uncorrectable damage” from a micrometeoroid strike NASA says. The Webb telescope uses a gigantic gold-plated mirror to capture images of space that would previously have been too dark to develop. The 21-foot-tall flower-shaped mirror is comprised of 18 separate segments that can be individually adjusted. In May, one of these segments was struck by a micrometeoroid. Micrometeoroids are fragments of asteroids that are usually smaller than a grain of sand, and of course the $10 million spacecraft was built in anticipation…

Sony’s upcoming Spider-Man-adjacent film “Madame Web” just caught another star in it’s web. Adam Scott will be joining Dakota Johnson (“50 Shades of Grey,” “Susperia“) in the latest installation of Sony’s Spider-verse. While his role in the film has not yet been announced, his recent Emmy-nominated performance in “Severance” gives us hope that he’ll keep knocking it out of the park. Beyond Johnson and Scott, the cast includes Sydney Sweeney, Celeste O’Connor, Isabela Merced, Emma Roberts, and Tahar Rahim. Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless have taken on the script originally written by Kerem Sanga, and S.J. Clarkson will direct. With…

It has been a rough week for Coppertone. On July 11th, a federal class action lawsuit targeting their Coppertone Sport Mineral ‘Face’ products was filed. Then, on the 13th, news broke that a toddler in East Texas had suffered second-degree chemical burns from the application of their spray-on suntan lotion. One can only hope the weekend doesn’t bring worse news. First, the lawsuit. Dovel & Luner, a litigation boutique law firm, alleges while the ‘Face’ line of products is marketed as being especially formulated for the face, it is in fact the same product. The filing notes the Face line…
