Warner Bros has just announced the release date for the live-action film version of the popular 1982 manga Akira. That date is May 21, 2021. This is the same date as the recently announce John Wick: Chapter 4, so Akira may face some tough competition. Writer-artist Katsuhiro Otomo’s dystopian cyberpunk manga series ran from 1982-1990 and was later collected into 6 volumes. Otomo adapted the material as an anime film in 1988. Rotten Tomatoes has made another change in an effort to prevent trolls from “review bombing” a movie that they don’t like on general principle and that often they have not even seen. Rotten Tomatoes is now adding verified ratings to its audience score system. A release date has been announced for the Netflix series The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance. All 10 episodes of the show will be available on Friday, August 30, 2019. Age of Resistance is a prequel to the 1982 movie The Dark Crystal. It takes place years before the time of the movie. The long-anticipated He-Man movie has been pushed back yet again. Sony Pictures and Mattel Films have announced that Masters of the Universe will be released on March 5, 2021. Previously, the film’s premiere had been pushed back from December 18, 2019, to sometime in 2020. Now the premiere will have to wait until 2021.
