The long-anticipated He-Man movie has been pushed back yet again. Sony Pictures and Mattel Films have announced that Masters of the Universe will be released on March 5, 2021. Previously, the film’s premiere had been pushed back from December 18, 2019, to sometime in 2020. Now the premiere will have to wait until 2021.
The Masters of the Universe reboot will be directed by Adam and Aaron Nee. Noah Centineo has been cast as Prince Adam/He-Man. Production on the movie should begin in mid-July in Prague. Although the animated series (1983-1985) about the hero of Eternia was popular, the previous 1987 Masters of the Universe movie starring Dolph Lundgren as He-Man and Frank Langella as his nemesis Skeletor (it also featured a young Courteney Cox) did not do well. The film made only $17.3 million, although it has since become something of a cult classic. Nevertheless, its box office failure may be one reason getting a reboot launched has been so difficult.
Hopefully, with the extra time, we can get the Masters of the Universe we deserve.
