“Cape Fear” is getting another remake. The original J. Lee Thompson-directed 1962 film was a captivating thriller that got remade by director Martin Scorsese in 1991. Seems like every three decades or so the story comes back around again. This time, as a series for Apple TV+. The property will be adapted into a 10-episode series for Apple TV+. Well, that didn’t take long! Last month, writer/director Kevin Smith wrestled the rights for “Dogma” away from convicted rapist Harvey Weinstein. The 1999 religious, dark comedy had been tied up with the Weinstein’s, leaving the film and its universe in a fairly untouchable place. Smith wanted to do a 25th anniversary tour of the movie, and had plans for continuing the story in various different forms. A month later- he’s planning a full-fledged sequel. SHOWTIME hasn’t had a lot to write home about lately in terms of successes. The once vaunted rival network to HBO brought us series like “Shameless,” “Dexter,” “The L Word,” and “Californication” amongst others. Last week, a troup of monkeys escaped from a testing facility in South Carolina. Come to find out, it’s not just the primates on the loose. Because a pair of escaped emus are also running wild. Better yet, their names are Thelma and Louise. Private animal owner Sam Morace posted about the missing animals on Facebook a few days ago. The animals escaped about three months ago. Unless you spent your formative years watching television in the mid ’90s, you may not remember the force of nature that was the groundbreaking medical program, “ER.” Created by author Michael Crichton, the show debuted in 1994, and was a ratings juggernaut for years. There are a lot of ways to try to claim and exaggerate damage to a vehicle, but few would go so far as to falsely claim a bear attack. Fewer still would have video footage of that bear attack.
