Author: Kurt Broz

THE Kurt Broz is not just a personality for Nerdbot, but he's also the editor-in-chief and a real live scientist! Born on the snowy shores of Lake Erie in good ol' Cleveland, Ohio, Kurt Broz has been there and back again, now residing in sunny Southern California. You can find THE Kurt Broz in cosplay, buying comics, hiking, and even writing for Nerdbot and WLFK Productions. He may be a child of the 80's but he is certainly a man of the world.

Many species have ironic, funny, or pop culture names. There’s the spider Myrmekiaphelia neilyoungi, the beetle Macrostyphus gandalf, and the parasitic (and possibly poker-faced) wasp Aleiodes gaga. But finally us 80’s gamer geeks have a species we can proudly call our own… Galagadon nordquiestae. Galagadon, a genus of extinct sharks, was so named because its teeth resemble the video game spaceship. Looking at them side by side (above) it’s easy to say why. According to the paper published in the Journal of Paleontology, this shark was a small, river-dwelling species with teeth specialized to crush shells and eat small fish.…

President Trump famously brought up the idea of Space Force! A military branch for space! Ignoring the treaties and whatnot involved, Space Force is kind of a cool idea, right? Who doesn’t love SPACE FORCE! Image: God bless Space-Merica! Steve Carrell loves Space Force. He loves it so much that he’s re-uniting with The Office’s Greg Daniels, writer/producer/director extraordinaire. Howard Klein, another The Office alumnus, is on board as well. We don’t know much about Space Force, but we do know that it’ll be a comedy series on Netflix. If it’s anything like the sketch he did for SNL recently…

Hot Take Alert: Thanos was straight up an evil monster and, yeah, he wasn’t very smart when it came to using the Infinity Gauntlet. In the comic book version, Thanos has a clear goal: Ending half of all life in the universe would win him his true love, the embodiment of Death. Here, committing insane mass murder wasn’t for any heroic means. Thanos didn’t want to save a dying universe or alleviate the destruction of his home world. No, he just wanted to hook up with Death. Image: Thanos thinks highly of himself. However, in the MCU we see an…

Here’s a sentence I can’t believe I am typing: The President of the United States of America, Donald J. Trump, proudly displayed a parody poster of himself  in Game of Thrones during a recent cabinet meeting based off an image he shared several months ago. Image: Yes, this is reality. During the first Cabinet meeting of 2019 in Bizarro World, President Trump left a poster of himself parodying the famous Game of Thrones “Winter is coming.” line. This poster declares, “Sanctions are coming.” Adding to the weirdness is that the image on this poster was shared via a Trump tweet…

Bob Einstein – comedic actor – is dead at 76. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SnomnTy18nE For most of the kids who grew up in the 80’s and early 90’s, Bob is best known for his alternate persona – Super Dave Osborne, Daredevil for Hire! Younger kids and older folks probably know him from his more recent work in Curb Your Enthusiasm and Arrested Development. Oh, and Simpsons fans might be familiar with Bob Einstein’s younger brother, Albert Brooks. Bob passed away on January 2, 2019 shortly after being diagnosed with leukemia… but we will always remember him as crazy, injury-prove daredevil Super Dave. This…

A lot of my friends jokes that I hate all movies. This is largely untrue, as I hate bad movies. A lot of what makes a bad movie is subjective, sure, but there are solid reasons behind labeling something good or bad (usually). There is a science behind dissecting movies for those of us who are movie nerds in the same way there is a science behind understanding and enjoying art, food, literature, or 80’s lunchboxes. Anything that exist can be studied and enjoyed – or hated – with valid support behind it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ePgLOVNMSTo Video: A really bad movie.  This…

Lots of folks are, well, less than impressed about the beloved Middle Eastern fairy tale Aladdin being adapted from the beloved animated film into a so-so looking live action film. People are upset about casting – are actors too white? Should they be only from certain areas of the middle east? – and the not-so-blue genie, Will Smith. But you’re all wrong… TWO MINUTE HISTORY LESSON Aladdin is the story of a poor Chinese kid with a family as written down by a French person based on a story that they may or may not have ever read as a…

MY MAN! Amazon and Warner Brothers/DC Comics had a cool promo. If you were an Amazon Prime member, you had the chance to see Aquaman early! Wow! Now, I had seen all the DC movies in the DCEU in theaters: Man of Steel (ugh), Batman vs. Superman (kill me), Suicide Squad (why?!), Justice League (meh), and Wonder Woman (wow!). I grew up loving comics. I have owned original Aquaman comics from issue 2 onward. Yes, vintage, ridiculous Aquaman comics. SPOILERS START IN A COUPLE OF PARAGRAPHS… So, if anyone was the right guy to sit through another depressing mess of…

Astrological signs mean close to bupkis. There is no scientific or logical backing for the 12 zodiac signs modern Americans rely on. Hell, different cultures use different signs and even our modern signs are basically bastardized Greco-Roman star chart nonsense coming from Babylonian celestial signs. Before we had reason, our ancestors drew arbitrary lines in the sky to try and explain why Linda was such a Capricorn or why Don just hates Libras. Thus, I propose we abandon the Rat and Ox, Cancer and Gemini, and even the 28 asterisms. I have constructed a better, more perfect 12 Signs of…

A 10-year old boy is in the hospital due to being attacked by bullies. He refused to fight back. Because, he says, pacifism is the Jedi way. Aiden was brutally assaulted and punched in the face by bullies. They even went so far as to tell him to kill himself. Anger leads to hate in the hearts of some, Yoda would say. Aiden stayed strong and remained pure of heart, refusing to fight back and to rather follow in the steps of the Jedi. He told his mother he refused to fight back because it was not the Jedi way.…
