James Gunn Reveals Official “Superman” Spotify Playlist

Filmmaker and co-head of DC Studios James Gunn has created yet another playlist for characters in his film. This time, it’s for his upcoming new take on classic superhero, “Superman.”

    “Superman” 2025, DC Studios

The film will star David Corenswet as Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicolas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Terence Rosemore as Otis, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen,  Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Edi Gathegi as Mr. Terrific, Isabella Merced as Hawkgirl, María Gabriela De Faría as The Engineer, Wendell Pierce as Daily Planet editor Perry White, Prutti Taylor Vince as Jonathan Kent, and Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern.

“I’m obsessive about music so I am excited to have partnered with Spotify and created a character playlist: What the characters from Superman listen to, to post on Spotify,” Gunn said. “In the movie, obviously Lois and Clark have conversations about music, so I knew where they were. Other people, I had to kind of come up with, the kind of music they would listen to, having never thought about it before.”

He said he thinks Lois Lane (Brosnahan) “has the best taste in music of everybody.” Photographer Jimmy Olsen (Gisondo) though, “all of his songs have nothing in common with each other. They’re all just songs about being noncommittal to people. And, and I don’t think that Jimmy would be aware of that.”

Here’s some examples of what character would listen to what (according to this Spotify playlist):

The Engineer: “La Mer” by Nine Inch Nails, “Archangel” by Burial, “Feral Love” by Chelsea Wolfe

Clark Kent: “Shake It Out” by Florence + The Machine, “The Middle” by Jimmy Eat World, “Don’t Stop Believin’” by Journey

Lex Luthor: “Fame (2016 Remaster)” by David Bowie, “Evil Thoughts” by Foxy Shazam, “Controversy” by Prince

Eve Teschmacher: “bad idea right?” by Olivia Rodrigo, “Shake It Off” by Taylor Swift, “…Baby One More Time” by Britney Spears

Metamorpho: “Digging Your Scene” by The Blow Monkeys, “Rise” by Public Image Ltd., “Synthesizers” by Butch Walker

“I am extraordinarily excited for you guys to listen to these marvelous playlists that I enjoyed putting together for each of the characters in ‘Superman,'” Gunn said. “Maybe get to know them a little bit better through their musical taste as we get ready for the movie on July 11th.”

    Listen for yourself now:

“Superman” hits theaters July 11th, 2025.
