“Rogue One” Spinoff Cassian Andor Disney+ Series Gets New Director

It would appear that the planned “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” spinoff live-action series on Disney+ focusing on Cassian Andor just had a pretty major change happen.

If you’ll recall, Disney+ announced plans for this series, which will see Diego Luna returning as Cassian, along with director Tony Gilroy attached. Turns out that Gilroy had to exit the project, and sources are saying it has to do with travel impacted by the ongoing pandemic.

Toby Haynes has been announced as stepping in to direct the first three episodes of the series, and we’re interested. With titles like “Black Mirror” episode “USS Callister,” “Sherlock” episode “The Reichenbach Fall,” and a handful of notable “Doctor Who” entries under his belt, we can’t wait to see what Haynes brings to the galaxy far, far away. He was already on the list of expected directors for the Cassian series, so this works out well for the UK production.

While we don’t know much about the show other than it’ll (obviously) be centered on Cassian’s adventures pre-Scariff, we do know that Adria Arjona, Denise Gough, Genevieve O’Reilly, Stellan Skarsgård, and Kyle Soller are on cast.

Rumors currently have the series beginning filming as early as November of this year at Pinewood Studios in London, which could mean a Disney+ debut in 2021 around the same time? Theoretically, production on the Cassian series would start before the long-rumored Obi Wan Kenobi series, which is slated to begin in early 2021.

We’ll of course let you know what else we hear about this and other Disney “Star Wars” projects.
