Let me start off by saying that I absolutely love gangster movies. I’ve seen more than my fair share- good and bad- fictional retellings and documentaries alike. That being said, “Gotti” puts me in a really weird place when it comes to film reviews. Not just within it’s own genre of mobster movies, but for movies on the whole. I honestly don’t know what to do with it or how to feel about it. Luckily, “Gotti” only needs to be weighed on whether or a not it deserves its 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. We’re gonna have to take both…

Not only do I get to learn a lot about actors and their careers in this series, I am also privy to unrelated discoveries that send me down a whole different type of rabbit hole. Highlighting Rachel Weisz this week as our underrated actor has done just that. What I discovered was that after her role in “Stealing Beauty,” only her second film ever she was given the title of an “english rose?” In short, it means a naturally beautiful, elegant Englishwoman, and the list of English roses is surprisingly short. I’m sure many of you from the headline alone are wondering how in the world young Professor Xavier actor James McAvoy can possibly make the underrated actor’s spotlight. Everyone knows him, and everyone generally regards him a good, solid actor. And yet, I’m not sold on the idea of him being an A-lister, and despite showing up in practically everything every time you turn around, his work and incredible talent still manages fly under the radar. So yeah- beyond the iconic “X-Men” fame, James McAvoy is criminally underrated. Considering his filmography only begins roughly 25 years ago, it’s incredible the…

This weeks’ inauguration was a highly anticipated event for everyone. Coming off a 2 week rollercoaster that rivaled most of 2020 in the beginning of 2021, there was a lot of expectations for what would transpire when the new administration officially took over. But no one, not even the predictive “The Simpsons” could’ve predicted that Bernie Sanders would end up becoming the star of the entire ceremony. Huddled in a puff jacket with homemade mittens and a grumpy old man scowl that could be seen even through his mask, the “Bernie sits here” immediately took the internet by storm and…

Given the complex nature of the scoring system, I think it is only fair to provide a framework for how we reassess films that have earned the dreaded 0% on Rotten Tomatoes like “A Low Down Dirty Shame.” It’s one thing to earn a low score. It’s quite another to be liked by absolutely no one critically. For the sake of this series, we’re going to operate on the basis that any film with a 0% simply cannot be fixed. The only remedy for a film that deserves it is to never have made the film in the first place.…

Strap in, folks. It’s gonna be a weird one. “Freeway” is proof that movies are by nature of their medium, weird. I know many of you have never, ever heard of this film, and I’m not the least bit surprised. A reimagining of Little Red Riding Hood where Riding hood is an illiterate, foul mouthed, abused and troubled rage monster and the wolf is a sexual sadist and serial killer. Ya, that’s the kind of movie we’re dealing with. And full disclosure, I’ve learned more about the creation and the creators of this film than I ever wanted to, and…
