Heath Andrews has been a student of pop culture ever since he found himself to be the only student in 3rd grade who regularly watched "Get Smart" on Nick-At-Nite. Ever since then he's been engrossed in way too much media with a growing collection of music, books, comics, TV on DVD box sets, and a video game collection that could rival a brick and mortar store. Prior to writing for Nerdbot he's written for Review You, MyAnimeList, and various advertising companies. Since 2016 he's run his own YouTube channel under the moniker of The Critical Android where he livestreams video games and uploads podcasts about pop culture and Frasier.

If you’ve been on the internet and watched anything on YouTube over the last year and a half, it’s highly likely you’ve stumbled across an advertisement for Dr. Squatch. They’ve developed a kind of advertising campaign that you can’t miss. Thanks to their ubiquitous presence and growing success, the soap and personal hygiene product company has secured a brand deal that will likely, force more of their products into some YouTube ads. That’s right, Dr. Squatch has entered the galaxy of “Star Wars.” Even if you don’t recognize the name itself because you skipped through the ads, you probably recognize…

On August 12th, a number of people were trying to beat the dog days of summer. The humidity and heat that New York State throws at residents and tourists every year can be horrendous, but New York City beaches can offer a wonderful respite from it. When the weather turns bad though, and lightning illuminates the sky, the beach is the last place you want to be. Unfortunately, this is the situation that seven people found themselves in last week with one of them losing their life. Carlos Ramos was 13-years old and spending time with his father when he…

Leave it to Australia to find monstrous creatures, the likes of which we’ve never seen before, even in death. In a recent publication from the University of Queensland, PhD candidate Tim Richards described the fossilized remains that were originally found in a quarry back in June of 2011. After continued research, the fossil now represents a new species of anhanguerian pterosaur, named Thapunngaka shawi. In terms of being compared to a dragon, that may be a bit of dramatic license; it’s not like a fire-breathing mystical being was soaring above the land of Australia millions of years ago. Thapunngaka shawi…

Sometimes it can take a while for someone to truly find themselves. In the case of Tim Drake, otherwise more commonly known as Batman’s sidekick Robin, its taken a little over three decades of time in the real-world but….Robin is finally coming out. Nope. Nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, NOPE! NOPE!!! NOPE!!!!! NOPE!!!!!!!! Apologies, that was my internal thought process manifesting itself onto the webpage. In my defense though, the same thing would happen to you if you had to write about this monstrosity that should only exist in H.P. Lovecraft’s fever dreams. The fish in question, known as the sheepshead, is actually fairly common. According to a fascinating article from Scientific American, the fish can frequently be found in the Northeast around Massachusetts, all the way down past Florida and the shores of Brazil. Then again, the same thing could be…

You could be forgiven if you haven’t thought about action-film star Jean-Claude Van Damme in a hot minute…or hour…or decade. The Muscles From Brussels has not starred in a widely released box-office hit since the mid 90s. He took a villainous turn in “The Expendables 2” back in 2012, and stars in Amazon’s “Johnson” series, but hasn’t really appeared as a leading man in the American cinema in some time. That being said, he’s still popular in parts of Europe where his films are released. In fact, he’s popular enough in France to have accidentally created a distraction that allowed…

When someone talks of setting the industry on fire, they generally don’t mean that in a literal sense. Try telling that to Caleb Ganzer, who was recently arrested on arson charges. Ganzer is accused of setting fire to two restaurants and a pile of trash on dates ranging from January 8th to July 12th of this year. Making the case all the more intriguing though is how Ganzer is also in the restaurant business as the managing partner at a Manhattan wine bar. More than that, he’s also a highly regarded sommelier, to the level of being considered one of…

The idea of automation has long been the bane of labor unions and workers rights activists for decades. No one really wants to be replaced at their job by a robot. Hell, in the legend of John Henry, the titular folklore hero competed against a steam powered rock driller only to die of cardiac arrest after beating the thing. But times have changed since then and the COVID-19 pandemic has created a labor shortage. So what’s a restaurant to do when understaffed? Hire a robot! On July 22nd, the Sugar Mediterranean Bistro in Stockton, California introduced their new hire- a…
