If only that international travel thing wasn’t still such a problem right now, because we would ABSOLUTELY be planning a trip to the Venice International Film Festival. Why you might ask? Aside from it being on the list of the most highly regarded festivals of its kind in the world, it will also be home to a very special premiere in 2021. Yes, after several delays and release confusion, Denis Villenueve‘s “Dune” will bow there.

We knew it was possible that the epic film would more than likely premiere at a European film festival, Cannes being the most likely. But it was confirmed by the actual Venice Film Festival itself yesterday that “Dune” would indeed premiere during their September 2021 event.

Yeah….we’re a little obsessed with Frank Herbert‘s seminal work of science fiction. We STILL love David Lynch‘s much-maligned 1984 version (pick up the new 4K here!) which started Kyle MacLachlan as Paul Atredies and Sting as Feyd Rautha, and sort of not-so-silently detest the mini series from the 2000s which starred Alec Newman and Matt Kesslar.

This new version has been in the works for some time, and has one of the most impressive casts assembled in recent years.
Starring Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides, Rebecca Ferguson as the Lady Jessica, Oscar Isaac as Duke Leto Atreides, Jason Momoa as Duncan Idaho, Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck, Zendaya as Chani, Javier Bardem as Stilgar, Stellan Sarsgård as Baron Vladimir Harkonnen, Dave Bautista as the Beast Raban, David Dastmalchian as Piter deVrys, Chen Chang as Doctor Wellington Yueh, Stephen McKinley Henderson as Thufir Hawat, Sharon Duncan-Brewster as Liet-Kynes, and Charlotte Rampling as Gaius Helen Mohiam.
Hans Zimmer is composing the score. Check out Zimmer’s cover of Pink Floyd’s “Eclipse” from the trailer here.
“Dune” is currently slated to hit HBO Max (and select theaters) on October 1st, 2021.
