One thing that I think we all can agree on is the fact our hearts broke when Alex Trebek announced that his cancer has returned. My heart weighs heavy just at the thought of it. Alex played a big role in my childhood, I remember sitting down and never getting the answers right when watching Jeopardy. Alex however, has already recited how he will exit the show. And to be honest, I am not ready for this at all.
Recently Alex sat down with Good Morning America and had an interview, he said to Michael Strahan that his departure from Jeopardy will be quote “a significant moment for me, but I’ve kind of, in my mind, rehearsed it already.”
“What I would do on that day is tell the director, ‘Time the show down to leave me 30 seconds at the end.’ That’s all I want,” he shared about his farewell plans.
“And I will say my goodbyes [and] I will tell people, ‘Don’t ask me who’s going to replace me because I have no say whatsoever. But I’m sure that if you give them the same love and attention, and respect that you have shown me…then they will be a success and the show will continue being a success. And until we meet again, God bless you and goodbye.“
For 35 years Alex Trebek has been hosting Jeopardy. And for me personally, I am not ready to say goodbye to him. He has been a staple of my life for as long as I have been alive. A part of me is crying inside, knowing that when he takes his final bow, my life will change from there on out.
