Scholastic has announced the new title for Suzanne Collins upcoming book. The story will be called The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. It will be published in print, digital and audio book form in the US, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Austrailia and New Zealand. It’s drop date is May 19th 2020 and there will be a total of 2.5 million copies in the first printing.
The new story centers around what happened leading up to the events of The Hunger Games. It will take place 64 years before Katniss Everdeen came on the scene taking her sisters place in the Hunger Games. It will focus on what happens during the reconstruction after the war, when district 13 was obliterated, and how the people of Panem got back on their feet.

Suzanne Collins said this in a statement:
“With this book, I wanted to explore the state of nature, who we are, and what we perceive is required for our survival. The reconstruction period 10 years after the war, commonly referred to as the Dark Days — as the country of Panem struggles back to its feet — provides fertile ground for characters to grapple with these questions and thereby define their views of humanity.”
