Author: Mary Anne Butler

Mary Anne Butler (Mab) has been part of the fast-paced world of journalism since she was 15, getting her start in album reviews and live concert coverage for a nationally published (print) music magazine. She eventually transitioned to online media, writing for such sites as UGO/IGN, ComicsOnline, Geek Magazine, Ace of Geeks, Aggressive Comix (where she is still Editor-in-Chief), Bleeding Cool (where she was News Editor), and now Nerdbot as Editor-In-Chief. Over the past 10 years, she’s built a reputation at conventions across the globe as a cosplayer (occasionally), photographer (constantly), panelist and moderator (mostly), and reporter (always). Interviews, reviews, observations, breaking news, and objective reporting are the name of the game for the founder of Harkonnen Knife Fight, a Dune-themed band with an international presence. Though she be but little, she is fierce.

With this pretty interesting casting news, I’m sure we’re all thinking the same thing- can Daniel Radcliffe (“Harry Potter”) actually play the accordion?! Because that’s a pretty important piece of the puzzle when someone gets cast as Weird Al Yankovic. Radcliffe was revealed this morning to be starring in “Weird: The Al Yankovic Story,” an original coming to The Roku Channel from Funny or Die. “When my last movie UHF came out in 1989, I made a solemn vow to my fans that I would release a major motion picture every 33 years, like clockwork. I’m very happy to say we’re on…

Microsoft is officially purchasing Activision Blizzard, for a whopping $68.7 million. This comes just a day after reports surfaced of the gaming giant cleaning house after months (years, more like) of stories of abuse and misconduct from company higher ups. Close to 40 persons have been let go over the recent public reports. But what we’re talking about right now is this sale. Microsoft says this purchase will position them as the “third-largest gaming company by revenue, behind Tencent and Sony.” In 2020, they purchased Bethesda, publisher of the ever popular Fallout franchise, for a reported $7.5 billion deal. This…

We still can’t get over the fact that we’re getting a freaking “Moon Knight” live action series from Marvel Studios on Disney+. Not only that, but Oscar Isaac will be playing Marc Spector, aka Moon Knight! I mean you can’t really beat that, so on those things alone, we’re excited. We do know that 4-time Oscar nominee Ethan Hawke is in the show as well. And he’ll theoretically be playing the villain. Hawke spoke a little bit about the inspiration behind his mystery character back in August of 2021, and it stands to reason he’ll be playing The Sun King.…

One of the newest offerings at Disneyland’s Avengers Campus in California Adventure is the Spider-Man show. Not just a costumed show, either. A highly detailed robot, created and designed in part by the late Grant Imahara, performs highflying, web-slinging stunts. It’s pretty impressive, honestly. And to be fair, there is a costumed performer portion of the stunt show as well, so it’s not ALL just the robot. As with all new attractions, sometimes things don’t go as planned. Like in this viral video posted to TikTok, which shows Spider-Man….having a real rough landing. Don’t worry, the robot is fine.

Joss Whedon is not the ally generations of “Buffy” and “Firefly” fans think he is. We’ve known this for some time. In the last handful of years alone there have been numerous accounts and reports about just how bad he is. Starting with rumors of inappropriate behavior around young actresses on set, and sort of publicly compounding with an op-ed by Kai Cole, Whedon’s ex wife. Things sort of got worse for the “Avengers” director from there, with “Justice League” stars Gal Gadot and Ray Fisher taking the accusations further. Gadot went on record saying Whedon had threatened her and…

It’s funny to think there’s an entire generation who will never understand how impactful “America’s Funniest Home Videos” was. In the age before YouTube, good cell phone videos and Vine, “AFHV” was our only source for homelife hilarity. Sure, there were sitcoms on network tv and various cable offerings, but there was something about “AFHV” that drew audiences in. Let’s be honest, it was mostly presenter and host Bob Saget. We sadly lost Saget rather suddenly on January 9th, 2021. Outpourings of love from friends, family, fellow comedians, and fans from across the world quickly followed. The thing almost everyone…
