Screambox is giving us the gift of old-school horror this holiday season. Oscar winner Joel Harlow (“Black Panther”) is launching a new four-part series, “Old Time Radio,” for the steamer. The show will be a throwback to EC Comics-style tales of terror.

The upcoming series is created and directed by Harlow.

“’Old Time Radio‘ was never meant to be just a series of shorts — it was a world I wanted to live in for a while. A place where the dead still have things to say, where horror is theatrical, handmade, and weird in all the right ways,” he told Bloody Disgusting. “I grew up loving the charm and menace of vintage radio dramas, the kind that relied on atmosphere, suggestion, and imagination — and I wanted to bring that feeling back, with characters and creatures built by hand.”

Given the snippets of footage that we see in the trailer, the show does look like a love letter to vintage horror comics. But the homage isn’t just in how it looks; “Old Time Radio” will also feature old-school effects.

“The series is built with practical effects, miniatures, rod puppets, old-school in-camera tricks — anything that felt authentic to the era and fun to do. That physicality is important to me,” Harlow explained. “It’s not just about nostalgia; it’s about creating something tactile and strange and slightly off-center — like those old EC Comics or the broadcasts that used to bleed through when you turned the dial just right.”

The creator goes on to tease a possible 5th instalment that he is working on, which will be “a Halloween tale.”

The first 2 episodes of “Old Time Radio” hits Screambox December 12th. The next two episodes debuting on December 19th. Check out the teaser trailer below:
