Stephen King‘s 1996 novel Desperation is in the works with Searchlight to get a feature film adaptation. Filmmaking duo Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein (Final Destination: Bloodlines) are in talks to direct. Ryan Brennan is already attached to write the script.

Desperation tells the story of a remote desert town where something evil has awakened. A group of travelers will have to fight to survive when a possessed cop turns routine arrests into a relentless battle.
The novel has only been adapted once before into a TV movie in 2006. And given the current climate, we’re surprised it isn’t a more well-worn part of King’s catalogue. But we’re even more shocked that Mike Flanagan’s name isn’t attached.
Sam Raimi will be producing the project with his Ghost House partner Robert Tapert, alongside King. This will be King and Raimi’s first ever project together. Stein and Lipovsky will also produce. Romel Adam and Jose Cañas will executive produce.
This early into development, there is no set release window for Desperation just yet. We’ll keep you posted on updates as they become available.
