McDonald’s Making Menu Changes, Bringing Back Familiar Faces

We all know McDonald’s is a tried-and-true fast food chain. At some point, you’ll stop by for Mickey D’s on a long trip, or after a long night. And that flavor is always the same. But there are some up-and-comers taking a little focus away from the Golden Arches. Five Guys and places like Shake Shack offer things McDonald’s doesn’t. Which is why McDonald’s is updating their menu to stay fresh and tasty.

Don’t worry, the changes aren’t taking away your favorites. The culinary innovators at McDonald’s USA are simply making some quality-of-life changes to pre-existing menu items. The first being puffier buns! Everyone likes a nice round bun, so McDonald’s is making their buns fluffier, as well as toasting them. Alongside those bigger buns is more sauce on the Big Macs, meltier cheese, and grilled onions! That last one has us pretty excited.

While past changes have involved additions to the menus to compete with other chains — crispy chicken sandwiches, Beyond Meat patties, and fresh ground beef, to name a few — these changes are improving favorite menu items. Chad Schafer, Senior Director of Culinary Innovation, believes in a less is more approach.

“We found that small changes, like tweaking our process to get hotter, meltier cheese and adjusting our grill settings for a better sear, added up to a big difference in making our burgers more flavorful than ever,” he said.

    A Familiar Face Returns

The change to food isn’t the only development. McDonald’s is bringing back a retired mascot; everyone’s favorite prison-striped burger thief! The Hamburglar has returned in McDonald’s most recent commercial. Something about that red-handed patty-snatcher made us want those tasty burgers all the more. Given McDonald’s consistently riding the nostalgia train, he’s a welcome and familiar sight for millennials.
