We need a second to catch our breath after seeing the upcoming auction listings for Lloyd’s Classic Cars. Seriously, this is an INCREDIBLE collection. Remember that first absolutely batshit trailer for George Miller‘s “Mad Max: Fury Road” where we got to see what vehicular madness awaited us? We absolutely do.
So just imagine for a second the idea of being able to BID ON some of those iconic “Fury Road” vehicles. Because that’s what’s happening RIGHT NOW. This collection is being touted as the GRAND CARmada EVENT, and has so many of our favorite screen-used creations from the multi Oscar-winning 4th “Mad Max” film.
You can check out the Lloyd’s listing here, or read on to see what all is included.
The 13 lots include:
- THE WAR RIG
- THE GIGAHORSE
- THE DOOF WAGON
- NUX CAR
- CONVOY CAR : ELVIS
- CONVOY CAR: FLAMER
- RAZOR COLA
- POLE CAR
- SABRE TOOTH
- FIRE CAR
- CALTROP: EL DORADO
- BUGGY: RATROD CHEV
- BUICK: HEAVY ARTILLERY WITH HUMMER WEAPON MOUNT
We do want to point out that the current listings do NOT indicate what kind of condition any of the lots are in. As fans know, the War Rig’s cab was pretty much destroyed during filming for that final iconic hero shot in the canyon. If you haven’t watched any of the behind-the-scenes featurettes for “Fury Road,” you absolutely should. Some stellar stuff about the vehicles, stunts, production, editing- pretty much everything about what makes the film so fucking amazing.
So, Immortan Joe’s sinisterly GORGEOUS black Gigahorse monstrosity of a vehicle, Max’s retrofitted Interceptor, the FREAKING DOOF WAGON, and the damn War Rig are all included. The current website listing on Lloyd’s doesn’t have expected prices, but we’re DYING to know what some of these beauties go for.
Oddly enough, the auction is scheduled to happen during the same time as Wasteland Weekend, the world famous Mad Max-inspired event.
“Furiosa,” the “Fury Road” sequel starring Anya Taylor-Joy as the title character, is expected to start filming anytime now in New South Wales, Australia. It currently has a release date of June 23rd, 2023 from Warner Bros. Pictures.
While we don’t know much about “Furiosa” yet, we DO know that Chris Hemsworth and Yaha Abdul-Mateen II are also on board. There have been persistent rumors that the story and plot may borrow heavily from 2015’s Mad Max video game from Avalanche Studios, filling in the backstory of this particular slice of Miller’s post apocalyptic wasteland.
Jenny Beaven, who won an Oscar for her incredible costume work on “Fury Road” (and most recently did “Cruella” for Disney) has confirmed she’ll be designing for it. Tom Holkenborg, aka JunkieXL, will also be returning to the “Mad Max” family to score “Furiosa.”
We will of course let you know what we hear about this and other news, including what some of these cars go for.
