Director James Wan (“Saw,” “The Conjuring“) is clearly taking inspiration from the Italian horrors of the 70s, and we are here for it!
The trailer shows main character Madison, watching home videos of her childhood with her mother, and discussing an imaginary friend named Gabriel. Wan then comes in with commentary about switching up the horror formula.
We then see Madison, terrified in her bed as a figure appears behind her. Is this Gabriel? We also get a glimpse of other terrifying scenes before the title flashes across the screen, in all its Giallo-style glory.

“Malignant” will star Annabelle Wallis and Maddie Hasson and is set to premier in theaters on September 10th. It’ll also be available via HBO Max on September 10th with the Ad-Free plan, streaming in the US only for 31 days from its theatrical release.
