If you thought the campy, cult TV show Dark Shadows was dead, think again. Warner Bros. Animation is reviving the 60s gothic soap opera as an adult animated series.
Created by Dan Curtis, the original live-action show aired on ABC from 1966 to 1971. It tells the story of Barnabas Collins, a tormented vampire, and his dysfunctional family.

Dark Shadows spawned several short-lived spin-offs in the 1970s. In 2012, it was remade into a feature film by Tim Burton, starring Johnny Depp as Barnabas Collins and Michelle Pfeiffer as Elizabeth Collins Stoddard.
This new animated series will continue the saga of the Collins family. “Blending gothic, horror, and supernatural genres, this coming adaptation promises all the dark twists and romantic intrigue that defined the transformational series across its 1200-plus episode run,” reads the logline.
Lisa Holdsworth will executive produce and showrun on the series. Cathy Curtis, Tracy Curtis, Eric Homan, Kevin Kolde, and Fred Seibert also executive produce.
There is no set release window for the animated Dark Shadows series. We’ll keep you posted on updates as the project develops.
