According to Disinsider who ran an exclusive today Disney has found its next live action film in Hercules. Hercules originally came out in 1997 and was a box office hit at the time making $252.7 million. This movie is going to be a theatrical release unlike Lady and the Tramp which premiered at the launch of Disney Plus.
Disinsider says that it’s learned from multiple reliable sources that the studio has tapped Jeffery Silver(The Lion King, Tron: Legacy) and Karen Gilchrist(The Lion King, The Mandalorian) to produce. This movie as well as Robin Hood and Lilo & Stich are all in pre-production.
The best news coming out of this is that they will be keeping the original songs in the film as well as possibly adding some new ones.
The duo that we know from their widely successful Marvel films will be directing. The Russo Brothers who are big fans of the animated film will be taking the helm on this project.
Due to studios being shut down by coronavirus it is suspected that they will be doing interviews and casting calls via Zoom. Once this is over they will start pushing for production to start, until then they can write the script and get things set up in motion so that no time is lost.
