Author: Mary Anne Butler

Mary Anne Butler (Mab) has been part of the fast-paced world of journalism since she was 15, getting her start in album reviews and live concert coverage for a nationally published (print) music magazine. She eventually transitioned to online media, writing for such sites as UGO/IGN, ComicsOnline, Geek Magazine, Ace of Geeks, Aggressive Comix (where she is still Editor-in-Chief), Bleeding Cool (where she was News Editor), and now Nerdbot as Editor-In-Chief. Over the past 10 years, she’s built a reputation at conventions across the globe as a cosplayer (occasionally), photographer (constantly), panelist and moderator (mostly), and reporter (always). Interviews, reviews, observations, breaking news, and objective reporting are the name of the game for the founder of Harkonnen Knife Fight, a Dune-themed band with an international presence. Though she be but little, she is fierce.

I always knew I was justified in my love of QuentinTarantino, and a recent interview with the filmmaker cemented it. The “Pulp Fiction” writer/director has made no secret of his love of genre- mostly spaghetti Westerns and classic tales of pulp horror and science fiction. But what about…television? One could make the assumption from that whole thing where Tarantino was working on a “Star Trek” film script that perhaps his favorite show was the Gene Roddenberry-created classic. But that’s apparently not the case. Instead, he named MY favorite science fiction series as his favorite- Ronald D. Moore’s reimagined “Battlestar Galactica.”…

For some of us, the coolest someone has ever looked in film is Ellen Ripley taking on the Xenomorph in Ridley Scott’s “Alien.” And again in James Cameron’s “Aliens.” Okay and pretty much any film that had Sigourney Weaver being a badass in space. One of the big parts of the look was a pair of Reebok high top sneakers, affectionately known as “stompers.” A few fears ago, a very, VERY limited set of stompers were released for LV426 (April 26th, widely celebrated as “Alien Day”). But, those were only in men’s sizes, and there were only 426 pairs. Sure,…

Directed by Jason Reitman and written…

We want to start by saying that headline is somewhat disingenuous. Yes, filmmaker David Lynch has disclosed his suffering from emphysema. Yes, he has said it has made it impossible for him to direct, but the main thing is “in person.” With Covid still very much a problem, it’s understandable for someone like Lynch to put his health first. So yes, while he “can no longer direct in person,” that doesn’t mean he’s done making films. Also, moral of this story? Yes, smoking causes health problems. “Smoking was something that I absolutely loved, but in the end, it bit me,” Lynch…

HBO’s flagship franchise “Game of Thrones” has to date had one spinoff series hit the small screen. This is a far cry from the once suggested 8 possible spinoffs set in that world we were supposed to get. “The House of the Dragon” just wrapped up it’s second season with the finale airing last night. Fans are….not happy. Without spoilers- the general consensus seems to be that not enough happened in the finale, with the story not moving enough one way or another. Author George RR Martin, who created the “Song of Ice and Fire,” has maintained “The House of…

Ah yes, the cinema collectable we did not expect to be such a thing. It all started with the “Dune Part Two” Shai Hulud sandworm popcorn bucket, and has continued with film after film releasing their special take on the snack holder. The most recent entry is for the upcoming long-awaited “Beetlejuice” from Tim Burton, and is actually TWO buckets!Regal Cinemas has three special designs that’ll be available when “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” hits theaters. The first is a take on the Handbook for the Recently Deceased, the other is the Ghost with the Most’s iconic headstone, and the third is what…

“John Wick” is back, yet again! This time, as a planned continuation tv series from creator/director Chad Stahelski and film franchise star Keanu Reeves. It’ll reportedly be called “John Wick: The High Table.” Stahelski will direct the pilot of the series. “The High Table” will be theoretically set right after the events of “John Wick: Chapter 4.” Reeves is going to be a “hands-on producer,” but is NOT confirmed for the cast. We can expect to see other characters from the films, though. Co-creator Robert Levin (“Black Sails”) wrote the project, which will “not interfere” with the planned 5th installment…

Thank the Lords of Kobol. That reboot of Ronald D. Moore’s “Battlestar Galactica” (which of course was a reboot of the classic 1970s series) from Sam Esmail is reportedly finally dead in the water. Or…space? Dead in space? Yeah, we’ll go with that. Back in 2020, Esmail (“Mr. Robot”) announced his intentions to reboot one of the most successful reboots to date. Sure, some of his ideas sounded interesting, but there was something missing from his proposed series. According to the usual suspects at Variety, the show is no longer in development at Peacock. Now, this doesn’t mean it won’t…

Now normally, I’d write some kind of lengthy preamble about how different and important Aaron Sorkin’s incredible drama series “The West Wing” was and is. And I probably will. Something about how formulate it was for me as a show and as something to aspire to. Characters I feel I know to this DAY. Conversations I WISH our politicians would actually have, and faith. Lots of faith, in our fellow humans and in our leaders. But its really more important for me to let fellow fans know about a new book coming from series co-stars Melissa Fitzgerald and Mary McCormack,…
