Author: Mary Anne Butler

Mary Anne Butler (Mab) has been part of the fast-paced world of journalism since she was 15, getting her start in album reviews and live concert coverage for a nationally published (print) music magazine. She eventually transitioned to online media, writing for such sites as UGO/IGN, ComicsOnline, Geek Magazine, Ace of Geeks, Aggressive Comix (where she is still Editor-in-Chief), Bleeding Cool (where she was News Editor), and now Nerdbot as Editor-In-Chief. Over the past 10 years, she’s built a reputation at conventions across the globe as a cosplayer (occasionally), photographer (constantly), panelist and moderator (mostly), and reporter (always). Interviews, reviews, observations, breaking news, and objective reporting are the name of the game for the founder of Harkonnen Knife Fight, a Dune-themed band with an international presence. Though she be but little, she is fierce.

It’s been a hell of a ride for “The Expanse.” Based on the sci-fi novels by James S.A. Corey (Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck), the series originally called the SYFY Channel home. After three seasons, SYFY pulled the plug on the fan-favorite. It was actually pulling in solid numbers, especially for a genre show. Amazon eventually swooped in and saved it, much to the joy of the cast, crew, and fans. The announcement was actually made by former Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos during a panel at the National Space Society’s International Space Development Conference. Despite some…messy…former cast member issues…”The Expanse” has remained a popular…

Trying to think of how to review something you’ve been a fan of, looking forward to, and are ultimately baffled by is difficult. If you are not a reader of the books, much of what you’ll see on screen won’t make sense. A lot of it will, though. Familiar archetypes, prevalent in fantasy and epic storytelling are universal. The land has a prophecy of a destructive savior, and a group of powerful women are hell bent on finding said…

Maybe a Russian anti-satellite weapons test happened over the weekend. Sure, that doesn’t seem too alarming, until you realize it happened IN space. And that it was possibly responsible for a “debris-generating event,” which may have additional consequences. To be fair, US Space Command did not confirm (nor deny) the “debris-generating event” was caused by Russia or any other countries’ activities in space. But two US officials did. “We are actively working to characterize the debris field and will continue to ensure all space-faring nations have the information necessary to maneuver satellites if impacted,” a Space Command spokesperson told CNN. “We…

Maybe you’re one of those who roll your eyes anytime someone mentions Life Day. A holiday from the Wookiee homeworld of Kashyyyk, Life Day made it’s first appearance in much-maligned “Star Wars Holiday Special” back in 1978. With Wookiees spread out across the galaxy, it was important for them to remember their forested planet, and celebrate family. Star Wars is kinda sorta finally giving Life Day the respect it deserves. Not only are there official Life Day treats available at Galaxy’s Edge in both Disneyland and Walt Disney World, there’s merch too. Things like Chewie in his red robe, complete…
