17 years ago, a huge storm hit Sedgwick County Zoo in Wichita, Kansas allowing two African flamingos to escape. On March 29th, the Coastal Fisheries division of Texas Parks and Wildlife confirmed that they had spotted one of these birds. Over a decade on the lam can change a bird. Luckily, this flamingo had a handy leg band sporting the number 492, which is also it’s name. The bird was caught on video on March 10 by an environmental activist near Port Lavaca, Texas. In 1986, Bill Heine installed an almost 25-foot fiberglass shark sculpture on his roof. It has been the talk of the town ever since. So much so that the Oxford City Council, who originally fought to remove the shark, are now embracing the sculpture. The whole point of the shark was not only to defy bureaucrats, but also to make an anti-war statement. Heine took issue with local authorities deciding what art is or isn’t acceptable for the public. A new series called “Welcome to Derry” is in the works for HBO Max. The show is a prequel to “It: Part One,” taking place in the 1960s. It may give the origin story for Pennywise, who originated in the Stephen King novel “It.” Since Pennywise’s reign of horror works in 27 year cycles, this would mean we are likely following the group he terrorized before the 1989 Losers Club. On March 24th, boxing legend Mike Tyson was at a small roof-top comedy club in Hollywood. He was sitting front row with a few friends when an unknown man approached him. According to witnesses, the man was so disruptive that it stopped the show. The man then challenged Tyson to a fight to improve his “status.” Few boxers have the name recognition that Mike Tyson has. Band The Dropkick Murphys have filed legal action against neo-Nazi group the New England Nationalist Social Club, or NSC 131.  The  cease-and-desist is for unauthorized use of the song “The Boys are Back.”  On March 20th, about a dozen NSC 131 members showed up to the St. Patrick’s Day parade in Boston. While members did wear masks, they held up a sign saying “Keep Boston Irish.” Their appearance and banner were denounced by the parade’s organizers, and Boston Mayor Michelle Wu. Prospero Hall and Funko Games have successfully kickstarted “Jurassic World: The Legacy of Isla Nublar” board game. This is the first major film licensed legacy game, and will be based in the Jurassic World universe.  In this cooperative game, 4 players try to build a safe and successful park on the island of Nublar. Literally starting with a blank island and building it up from there. Over the course of 12 modules known as adventures,’ players make decisions on what to do with their park. A man was rescued from Lake Keowee in Salem, South Carolina only to then be shot in self defense by his rescuer. On March 15th, 2022 at around 2:16 pm, The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched due to reports of a shooting. The police found 29-year-old Nathan Drew Morgan, of Walhalla, South Carolina, had been fatally shot in the chest. According to the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office, a couple in a pontoon boat spotted Morgan and a woman stranded in the water.
