Global entertainment company Lionsgate has closed the deal on buying Hasbro’s Entertainment One (eOne) for $375 million in cash. While this is the same price tag as when the merger was announced in August, it is still subject to certain purchase price adjustments. This includes the assumption that certain production financing loans will come through. So while it’s a done deal, some clerical uncertainties still exist. This acquisition gains Lionsgate 6,500 different film and television titles, making its catalog one of the largest in the world. Not only is the company’s library expansive but diverse as well. eOne produces ABC’s…

Film concept artist Reid Southen (“The Hunger Games”) has been pointing out AI platform MidJourney’s blatant plagiarism for some time now. Late last week, Southen posted some very damning evidence on X (formally Twitter). He shared a collection of screenshots from different users showing AI prompts of famous paintings, including Leonardo da Vinci’s “Mona Lisa,” spitting out almost identical images. Several users wrote these examples off since the paintings are in the public domain, therefore fair game to be replicated. Southen doubled down and showed MidJourney is also doing this with copyrighted work. He shared a prompt of Joaquin Phoenix…

A Goodwill store in Richmond, Virginia sold a vase in June for $3.99, that was just auctioned off for $107,000. Life-long thrifter Jessica Vincent hits the local second-hand stores with her partner Naza Acosta a few times a week. But during an afternoon outing, she hit the jackpot with a beautiful brightly colored vase.  While browsing, she noticed a bootle-shaped vase with ribbons of aqua green and amethyst purple, that spiraled up its surface like stripes of paint. The only markings Vincent could make out were on the piece’s base and read “Murano” and “Italia.” “I bought it thinking it…

Actor Christopher Abbott (“Poor Things”) will lead Leigh Whannell’s (“The Invisible Man”) upcoming movie, “Wolf Man.” The past three years of production has not only shifted lead actors, but directors as well. Ryan Gosling was originally set to star, but has stepped back to an executive producer role for undisclosed reasons. [Though we doubt it was him bringing a lack of Kenergy to the part.] While Whannell was the first director attached to this project, he was replaced by Derek Cianfrance in 2021, only to come back on board.  Even with all the pieces coming together, Blumhouse and Universal are…
