“Community” fans are one step closer to the “six seasons and a movie” prophecy being fulfilled. Series star Donald Glover has confirmed the script for the upcoming film is finished! Which is really cool. Cool cool cool.
The “Community” movie’s production had already started but was delayed during the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Co-star Joel McHale said they aim to start shooting sometime this summer. The script being done will hopefully keep them on target for that since the next big hurdle seems to be scheduling issues.
“I was told that the script — literally, I was texting today — I was told that the script was done,” Glover said during the premiere of his Prime Video series “Mr. & Mrs. Smith.” Though he also confirms he hasn’t read it yet.
The biggest question mark has been around Glover’s return given the enormous success he has had since the series ended in 2015. But that isn’t case now, as the Childish Gambino has confirmed he’s all in. “It’s really just a schedule thing [but] I’m in. I’m all in,” Glover assured.
As it stands, the “Community” movie will see the return of McHale, Glover, Gillian Jacobs, Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, Yvette Nicole Brown, Jim Rash, Ken Jeong, and series creator Dan Harmon. Basically all of the core cast with the exclusion of Chevy Chase [thank GOODNESS]. We’re really hoping Buzz Hickey (Jonathan Banks) comes back, too.
We will keep you posted on updates about the “Community” movie as they become available. In the meantime, all six seasons are currently streaming on Netflix.
