Diehard fans of animated series “SpongeBob Squarepants” are getting a real treat this Super Bowl. CBS has announced the characters from the show will perform their fictitious hit tune “Sweet Victory” before kickoff on Nickelodeon’s airing of Super Bowl LVIII.
Proving once and for all that memes really do come true.
During season 2 episode 15 of “SpongeBob Squarepants,” the titular character and his pals perform the song “Sweet Victory” during the Bubble Bowl. Ever since the internet has been clamoring for the song to play at the real Super Bowl.
This movement gained even more traction after the loss of “SpongeBob Squarepants” creator Stephen Hillenburg in 2018. That same year, a petition was even created to finally make this happen. While the song wasn’t performed, there was a tribute during the 2019 halftime show. Now, after over 20 years of waiting- it is finally happening!
Super Bowl LVIII takes place February 11th. Kickoff is set for 3:30 pm. But only Nickelodeon’s broadcast will contain the sweet victory that is… “Sweet Victory.” We will be reporting on the biggest trailers and best commercials. You can check out CBS’ announcement video below.
