The 500 Million Limited Edition PS4 Pro is Out (And You Can’t Have One)

On Friday August 24th, Sony released its 500 Million Limited Edition PlayStation 4 Pro bundle. This was created to celebrate the company’s sale of 500 million PlayStation units from the original PSOne to present. The bundle includes a gorgeous translucent blue PS4 Pro console with copper details and 2 TB of storage.

The 500 Million bundle includes a matching DualShock 4 controller, PlayStation Camera, mono headset and vertical stand in addition to the console. It will retail for $499.99. In September, the controller will be available separately for $64.99, and a limited edition headset will be available for $99.99.

Sony has only manufactured 50,000 units, so if you’re interested in scoring one of these beauties, you’ll need to act quickly.

Oh wait. Just kidding. Not fast enough. They’re gone.

This bundle is an excellent thing for Sony to release. And truthfully, that price tag is legitimately awesome. There’s no argument there. But at 50,000 units, the odds of getting one are just so disappointingly low that it’s mind boggling why retailers would even bother trying to carry it. Think of all the stores across the country. What would each get one, maybe three at best? (You just saw math happen in real time; enjoy).

And to clarify; this is 50,000 units WORLD WIDE.

Within literal seconds (yes, I tried to get one) of the bundle going up last week, it was sold out and unavailable. And within seconds from that, people were flipping the system from its original $500 price to close to $1,000 (or more) on eBay.

According to a report from Polygon, a few other retailers will be selling the 500 Million bundle, but they haven’t confirmed timing. Target has listings up for the bundle, controller and headset. Best Buy lists the bundle and controller. Amazon briefly displayed a landing page for the bundle itself on Tuesday, but has since removed it.
