The CW NOT Recasting “Batwoman” Kate Kane

We were super curious to find out exactly how The CW was going to handle the recasting of “Batwoman” series lead Ruby Rose after she exited the series mere hours after the final episode of season 1.

Originally, The CW laid plans for recasting the role of Kate Kane / Batwoman outright, but we know a little bit more about their actual decision.

According to Decider via a Reddit-descovered casting call, the network is reportedly looking to cast a new character named “Ryan Wilder.” Described as a “female, Mid-late 20s, any ethnicity.” Pretty normal, right? Until you get to the end of the listing which is where this particular bit of news comes from:

“Ryan Wilder is about to become Batwoman.”

“She’s likable, messy, a little goofy and untamed. She’s also nothing like Kate Kane, the woman who wore the batsuit before her,” the listing reads. It stands to reason the Ryan Wilder name may be made up, and the character could be another notable DC Comics personality.

This could just be Reddit messing with “Batwoman” fans, but we wouldn’t be surprised if it turns out to be true. You can read more about what Ruby Rose had to say about her exit here.

Several actresses have already tossed their hats in the hopeful Bat-ring, and we’re certainly curious to see who ends up donning the cowl.

“Batwoman” season 1 just completed, and is available on The CW app.

Mary Anne Butler (Mab) has been part of the fast-paced world of journalism since she was 15, getting her start in album reviews and live concert coverage for a nationally published (print) music magazine. She eventually transitioned to online media, writing for such sites as UGO/IGN, ComicsOnline, Geek Magazine, Ace of Geeks, Aggressive Comix (where she is still Editor-in-Chief), Bleeding Cool (where she was News Editor), and now Nerdbot as Editor-In-Chief. Over the past 10 years, she’s built a reputation at conventions across the globe as a cosplayer (occasionally), photographer (constantly), panelist and moderator (mostly), and reporter (always). Interviews, reviews, observations, breaking news, and objective reporting are the name of the game for the founder of Harkonnen Knife Fight, a Dune-themed band with an international presence. Though she be but little, she is fierce.
