There has been a spike in rumors about a possible fifth installment to Marvel Studios’ “Thor” franchise. While the speculation may or may not be true, we can confirm that Oscar-winning director Taika Waititi will not be involved. Waititi directed the two most recent films in the franchise, “Thor: Ragnarok,” and “Thor: Love and Thunder.”

While doing press for his new film “Next Goal Wins,” he was asked directly about “Thor 5.” “I wouldn’t know if that’s accurate,” Waititi said. “I know that I won’t be involved. I’m going to concentrate on these other films that I’ve signed on for.”
Given his schedule of upcoming films we can see why. The writer/director will tackle a movie adaptation of Alejandro Jodorowsky‘s graphic novel “The Incal.” He is also still developing a highly-anticipated “Star Wars” movie, that he says is “still marinating. I’ve been writing it.”
But first, he will be doing a film adaptation of the acclaimed novel “Klara and the Sun,” by Kazuo Ishiguro. The book tells the story of Klara, a robot designed to prevent loneliness among teenagers, who tries to save a group of humans she lives with from heartbreak.
“So that’s six, seven years gone,” Waititi says about all these upcoming projects. “I’d imagine another ‘Thor’ would be a lot sooner than that.” He was quick to add “But I love Marvel, I love working with them. I love Chris,” referring to leading man, Chris Hemsworth.

While Waititi cannot confirm or deny if a “Thor 5” is even in the works, he isn’t taking it personally if the series moves on without him in the director’s chair. “I would never feel like they are cheating on me,” Waititi said with a laugh. “We’re in an open relationship, and it’s like if they want to see other people, I’m happy for that. I’d still get back into bed with them one day.”
We’ll keep you posted on news about “Thor 5” if/when it becomes available.
