    Nerdbot Cosplay Spotlight: Emily Aurelia

This cosplayer I’ve worked with on a couple reality shows and she is genuinely such a beautiful soul. I’m very happy to have Emily Aurelia as this week’s Cosplay Spotlight!

    Please Introduce Yourself

Hello, I’m Emily Aurelia! I love magical girls, idols, and jellyfish! I’m just a dweeb from SoCal who likes cosplaying with my friends and hanging out by the ocean.

What made you start cosplaying, how long have you been into it? How were you first introduced to cosplay?

I was first introduced to cosplay by my friends at my high school’s anime club and didn’t actually start cosplaying until a couple years later after attending my first convention around 2013. After seeing so many impeccably hand made costumes at Anime expo, I knew that I wanted to do the same. The first convention I cosplayed at was Anime LA. I think I wore Blair from Soul Eater…but that was a long time ago. I don’t even remember!

What are your most and least comfortable cosplays?

My most comfortable costumes would have to be my Racer Princess Daisy from Mario Kart, Major Motoko Kusanagi from Ghost in the Shell, and Super Sailor Moon. I made them well enough that I could wear them over and over again. My craftsmanship really improved with those costumes. My least comfortable would be She-Hulk due to the green body paint. I had to paint the musculature on myself! Morrigan was rough because during the con crunch I didn’t build a good support system for the wings and only had some ribbon around my waist to hold up the heavy wings. The ribbon was cutting into my waist and I could only wear it for a couple hours.

Do you have any accomplishments or cosplay projects you’re particularly proud of?

I’m always proud of the costumes I create! I feel like I learn and grow a bit with every costume I make. There are a few costumes that stand out a little more though. Sailor Moon is near and dear to my heart and after remaking that costume 4 times to perfect airbrushing the gradient on the skirt of her Super Sailor Moon transformation. I was incredibly happy with the finished costume!

Another project I was proud of was my Elsa costume that I made a week before my trip to Iceland. I spent many late nights gluing rhinestones to that costume all the way up until the flight out. It was really special to bring a costume on the trip and shoot it on a glacier with my friends. I got to cosplay with Michelle and shot with FiveRings Photography and BigWhiteBazooka when it was -4C after hiking up a glacier in crampons. It made for an epic trip!

What sort of music/food/drink do you have when working through the night at an outfit?

During late nights sewing crunch sessions, I love to stay hyped for my costume by rewatching the anime/movie it’s from and blasting the opening theme songs while eating a lot of sugary sweets and downing black coffee.

What are we looking forward to from you? What are your future goals, ideas, aspirations?

I started creating YouTube videos due to the pandemic lockdowns. With the channel, I want to focus on cosplay crafting videos but it’s becoming a blend of all my interests and passions. I have some fun cosplays that I’m working on with friends when we can go back to conventions again.

You can follow Emily Aurelia on her Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, and YouTube Channel!
