We are so thrilled to report that Wattpad WEBTOON Studios and The Jim Henson Company are developing a young adult animated series based on the highly popular web comic, “Lore Olympus” by Rachel Smythe.

If you’ve never seen Smythe’s gorgeous and wonderfully written webcomic, head to WEBTOON and do so.

The official synopsis of “Lore Olympus” reads:

“Witness what the gods do…after dark. The friendships and the lies, the gossip and the wild parties, and of course, forbidden love. Because it turns out, the gods aren’t so different from us after all, especially when it comes to their problems. Stylish and immersive, this is one of mythology’s greatest stories — The Taking of Persephone — as it’s never been told before.”

We don’t know a lot about the project yet, other than the assertation that it will be a YA (young adult) animated series. Executive Director of Television for The Henson Company Ashley Griffis said the official press release about the news:

“At Henson, we love stories that inspire, both artistically and intellectually, and Webtoon’s Lore Olympus does both. Rachel Smythe’s new take on mythology and innovative design, with a unique female perspective, makes this project perfect for today’s young adults. The world of Lore Olympus is a welcome part of the Henson tradition of exceptional fantasy storytelling.”

Webtoon’s Senior Vice President of IP Development Taylor Grant said in the same release:

“We are thrilled to partner with The Jim Henson Company, a beloved brand known for its commitment to quality entertainment,” Grant said. “The combination of our tremendously successful IP along with the. creative expertise of The Jim Henson company provides an opportunity to deliver a unique animated series unlike any we’ve seen before. We are excited to expand the Lore Olympus universe and bring it to life for a whole new audience.”

We’ll of course let you know what we hear about this project, as it’s one of our absolute favorite webtoons currently out there.

Who would you want to hear voice Persephone? What about Hades? And of course- Minthe. Let us know in the comments!

You can pre-order volume one of the Lore Olympus omnibus here.

Mary Anne Butler (Mab) has been part of the fast-paced world of journalism since she was 15, getting her start in album reviews and live concert coverage for a nationally published (print) music magazine. She eventually transitioned to online media, writing for such sites as UGO/IGN, ComicsOnline, Geek Magazine, Ace of Geeks, Aggressive Comix (where she is still Editor-in-Chief), Bleeding Cool (where she was News Editor), and now Nerdbot as Editor-In-Chief. Over the past 10 years, she’s built a reputation at conventions across the globe as a cosplayer (occasionally), photographer (constantly), panelist and moderator (mostly), and reporter (always). Interviews, reviews, observations, breaking news, and objective reporting are the name of the game for the founder of Harkonnen Knife Fight, a Dune-themed band with an international presence. Though she be but little, she is fierce.
