Legendary director John Woo has announced his first film in 4 years, “Silent Night” starring Joel Kinnaman. Woo has only directed a handful of western films. He took the helm of 2000’s “Mission Impossible 2” and of course 1997’s “Face / Off.”  Kinnaman most recently starred in James Gunn’s “The Suicide Squad” as Colonel Rick Flag. Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon, and Emily Blunt are boarding Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer”. Cillian Murphy has already been announced in the titular role of J. Robert Oppenheimer. It was announced Blunt joined the project in October. She’ll be playing Oppenheimer’s wife, Katherine “Kitty” Oppenheimer. Announced today, Downey Jr. and Damon join the cast.  Oppenheimer is one of the theoretical physicists credited as the father of the atomic bomb. Amazon Studios has swooped up the rights to the film. The story comes from Hiram Garcia who just so happens to be President of Production for Johnson’s Seven Bucks Productions. The film will be a family friendly action-adventure comedy. It’s hoping to shoot in 2023 which means expect no earlier than a 2023 release date. Ryan Gosling’s “Wolfman” project with Universal has shed it’s previous director. Leigh Whanell was originally attached to the project but departed earlier this year due to scheduling conflicts. “Blue Valentine” helmer Derek Cianfrance is now joining instead. Gosling and Cianfrance had previously teamed up for both “Blue Valentine” and “Place Beyond the Pines.” Cianfrance is already penning the script so this would be adding more responsibilities.  Universal Pictures had previously been trying to set up their Dark Universe.
