Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is about to step back into the ring. Or in this case, the cage. Johnson is set to star in a long-gestating project from Benny Safdie (“Uncut Gems”) about MMA fighter Mark Kerr. Titled “The Smashing Machine” after Kerr’s signature fighting style, the film has been picked up by A24.Kerr is a two-time UFC Heavyweight Tournament Champion, World Vale Tudo Championship tournament winner, and a PRIDE FC competitor. This morning, fans of Universal Pictures and Dreamworks’ enduring animated hero “Kung Fu Panda” is going on a fourth adventure! While we still don’t have a lot of information about Alex Garland’s next film for A24, we do have the first trailer for “Civil War.” The tagline gives some hints,  “a race to the White House in a near-future America balanced on the razor’s edge,” which the trailer backs up. But…that’s kind of it? What a cast, though! We are very sorry to report the news that 2-time Emmy winner André Braugher has passed away. Modern audiences probably know him best as Captain Raymond Holt from “Brooklyn Nine-Nine.” He also starred in “Homicide: Life on the Street,” where he played Detective Frank Pembleton.His publicist of the last 25 years Jennifer Allen confirmed the news. Braugher was 61.

This is one of those casting rumors we’ve been aware of for sometime. Following yesterday’s discovery that MAX, streaming service arm of Warner Bros. Discovery, had somehow “accidentally” removed “Watchmen,” additional news about things with a DC Comics angle has come to light. Apparently, a new deal has been struck between WBD and Tubi for the streaming rights to the majority of those DC properties. We’d pointed out yesterday that ALL the “Superman” films were no longer on MAX, and pointed out other titles like “The Batman” had new streaming homes (like Netflix). Arrakis. Dune. Desert Planet. The epic science fiction story from the great Frank Herbert is getting it’s modern sequel film next year, and Warner Bros. / Legendary Pictures just released brand new character posters for it.
