Author: Mary Anne Butler

Mary Anne Butler (Mab) has been part of the fast-paced world of journalism since she was 15, getting her start in album reviews and live concert coverage for a nationally published (print) music magazine. She eventually transitioned to online media, writing for such sites as UGO/IGN, ComicsOnline, Geek Magazine, Ace of Geeks, Aggressive Comix (where she is still Editor-in-Chief), Bleeding Cool (where she was News Editor), and now Nerdbot as Editor-In-Chief. Over the past 10 years, she’s built a reputation at conventions across the globe as a cosplayer (occasionally), photographer (constantly), panelist and moderator (mostly), and reporter (always). Interviews, reviews, observations, breaking news, and objective reporting are the name of the game for the founder of Harkonnen Knife Fight, a Dune-themed band with an international presence. Though she be but little, she is fierce.

Some never thought it would happen, but it finally has! The original console version of Tetris has, for the first time in its history, been beaten by a human. And not just any human, 13-year-old Willis Gibson, who goes by blue scuti in the gaming world. True, there is no real way to ‘beat’ the game technically, but Gibson made it to the infamous ‘kill screen’ in 39 minutes, a fete only done by AI until now. Tetris doesn’t have what one would consider an ending. In fact, as players discovered ways to get further in the game, some weird…

A new hybrid animated series from Mike Judge (“King of the Hill,” “Beavis and Butthead”), Zach Woods, and Brandon Gardner. Imagine “stop-motion puppets” working at a radio station, conducting interviews with people. That’s the premise of “In The Know,” with animation from ShadowMachine (Guillermo del Toro’s “Pinocchio”). Along with the first trailer, we learned about guest stars we’ll be seeing in the series. People like Mike Tyson, Jonathan Van Ness, Kaia Gerber, Ken Burns, Finn Wolfhard, Tegan and Sara, Nicole Byer, Roxane Gay, Norah Jones, Jorge Masvidal, and Hugh Laurie. “Lauren Caspian is NPR’s third most popular host. He’s a well-meaning,…

We want to start by pointing out there are compelling arguments on both sides of this debate. In short, the Academy has decided Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach’s screenplay for the billion-dollar “Barbie” movie is not eligible to be considered as an original work. Instead, when Oscars voting for members opens on January 11th, “Barbie” will be considered an adapted work. Every awards body is allowed to set their own terms of what is and what is not admissible in certain categories. (Ergo the ongoing argument about”Orange is the New Black” being told they could not campaign as a comedy…

A new year, a new update from George RR Martin about the state of projects stemming from his iconic “Song of Ice and Fire” saga. Continuing the trend of being our best source of information, GRRM dropped a nugget of news about the status of one of the many planned “Game of Thrones” offshoots. Obviously we know “House of the Dragon” is returning for season 2 sometime this summer, but what about the other shows? Well, while singing the praises of Netflix’s “Blue Eye Samurai,” Martin teased some animated projects he’s got cooking with HBO. “As it happens, HBO and…

What if we told you Kevin Feige has single-handedly changed what is and what is not officially canon in the MCU. You’d probably say, “yeah, that tracks,” or maybe “surely not EVERYTHING pre-Iron Man is canon.” Well, that’s where we’d have to stop you and direct your attention to “Marvel Studios: The Marvel Cinematic Universe—An Official Timeline” book.President of Marvel Studios Feige wrote the intro for the book. He snuck in a little tidbit about the Sacred Timeline, and what actually counts as canon now. Ok, so, obviously this can be taken a few different ways. But, the obvious thing…

in April of 2023, upcoming projects and films were confirmed for the galaxy far, far away. One of the big surprises was confirmation that we haven’t seen the last of Rey Skywalker. A new film will see the return of Daisy Ridley as Rey, who we last saw in “Rise of Skywalker.” Supposedly, this story will center around an older Rey as she rebuilds/remakes the Jedi order, as a Master. “Peaky Blinders” creator Steven Knight will be writing the script. Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (“Ms. Marvel“) will direct, becoming the first woman to do so for a film in the franchise. (Only took…11 films. More if you count…

This just in-well…kinda. Seeing as how there aren’t super-trustworthy sources on this particular story yet, but, we expect that to change in the next few hours. We’re speaking of course of news that Oscar nominated actor Steven Yeun has reportedly left Marvel Studios’ upcoming film, “Thunderbolts.”Yeun was announced as part of the cast back in February of 2023. At the time, there was no confirmation of what role he’d be taking on. But, in the last few months, it’s been confirmed he’d be playing character Sentry. At present, Marvel Studios has yet to comment on the situation. Rumors are circulating…

It’s been 100 years Walt Disney’s animated film “Steamboat Willie” released. Which, if you’re in the know, means as of January 1st, the character and film are now public domain. This means people can use the character and film, making their own stories with them, without fear of The House of Mouse cracking down on them. So, of course, the very first project to use the public domain character is a horror movie. Think of “Mickey’s Mouse Trap” as something akin to the Winnie the Pooh inspired “Blood & Honey” (which is getting a sequel). “We just wanted to have…

We should all be so lucky to have the same drive and opportunities at 91 that this particular person does. Granted, his talent is kind of without equal, so…that already is something to envy. We’re speaking of course of the Maestro of the Movies, the one and only John Williams. As you’ll recall back in June of 2022, Williams revealed “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” would likely be his farewell. Now, this isn’t the first time he’d said that regarding his incredible career composing the most iconic film scores in history. But it was certainly likely. Especially with…

The second season of Marvel Studios’ animated “What If…?” series has hit Disney+, and they’re already teasing what’s to come in season 3! While we don’t have a release date yet, we do HAVE a special sneak peek of what’s to come. In a scene posted earlier today, we see a clip of young Red Guardian (David Harbour) and Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) trying to get past a blockade, lead by Bill Foster (Laurence Fishburne). This *could* be a tie-in/lead up to the upcoming MCU film “Thunderbolts,” which will see the return of the characters in an all-new adventure. The…
