Sabeer Nelli Says Regional Tech Hubs Grow Stronger When Talent Can Build Careers at Home

The fintech leader says senior roles, not just entry-level jobs, help determine whether regional talent stays and grows locally.

TYLER, Texas, Sept. 25, 2026 — Sabeer Nelli, CEO of Zil Money, has shared his perspective on what helps skilled professionals stay and build careers in regional technology hubs.

Nelli believes a regional hub becomes stronger when professionals can grow into senior roles close to home instead of treating their hometown as a place to begin before moving elsewhere.

For him, the strength of a regional technology hub is not only about how many people it trains. It is also about how many people can build full careers there.

A First Job Is Only the Beginning

Many regional programs focus on helping people get their first job.

Training programs and internships can help people enter the technology industry, but Nelli says the career path after those first few years matters too.

When ambitious engineers and operators cannot see where their careers can lead locally, they may begin looking elsewhere.

“A first job gets someone started, but a career is what keeps them in the community,” said Nelli. “If people can grow into senior work close to home, the hub stops being a stepping stone and starts being a destination.”

    Senior Professionals Strengthen Local Teams

Senior roles can have an impact beyond the people holding them.

Experienced professionals mentor newer colleagues, make hiring decisions, lead teams, and help set standards.

Without experienced professionals nearby, younger talent may have fewer people to learn from and fewer examples of how far their own careers can grow locally.

    Give Regional Talent Real Responsibility

Nelli believes employers also play a direct role in building stronger regional technology hubs.

Companies can give local professionals responsibility for running projects, owning customer outcomes, and leading teams instead of keeping that work only in offices located in larger cities.

“Talent does not need a big city to do big work. It needs to be trusted with it,” said Nelli.

Distributed work has made this more practical.

A team member based in a smaller city can contribute to products used around the world. Nelli believes companies can use that opportunity to invest more deeply in local talent instead of limiting regional teams to routine work.

    Make Career Growth Visible

Nelli sees building strong regional technology hubs as a shared responsibility between employers and educational institutions.

Colleges and training programs can align what they teach with roles available nearby.

Companies can make the path from trainee to experienced professional and team leader visible from the beginning.

Nelli’s view is straightforward: people are more likely to stay where they can see their next step.

Looking ahead, he believes successful regional hubs will be defined not only by how many people they train, but also by how many people are able to build full careers there.
