Mary Anne Butler (Mab) has been part of the fast-paced world of journalism since she was 15, getting her start in album reviews and live concert coverage for a nationally published (print) music magazine. She eventually transitioned to online media, writing for such sites as UGO/IGN, ComicsOnline, Geek Magazine, Ace of Geeks, Aggressive Comix (where she is still Editor-in-Chief), Bleeding Cool (where she was News Editor), and now Nerdbot as Editor-In-Chief. Over the past 10 years, she’s built a reputation at conventions across the globe as a cosplayer (occasionally), photographer (constantly), panelist and moderator (mostly), and reporter (always). Interviews, reviews, observations, breaking news, and objective reporting are the name of the game for the founder of Harkonnen Knife Fight, a Dune-themed band with an international presence. Though she be but little, she is fierce.

This just in- New Mexico First Judicial District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies has confirmed actor/producer Alec Baldwin and armorer Hannah Gutierrez Reed will be charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter each. The charges haven’t been filed yet, but are likely to by the end of the month. These charges come from the tragic on-set shooting death of “Rust” cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. Baldwin is possibly facing up to 18 months for involuntary manslaughter, but they must prove negligence. In New Mexico, it’s a mandatory 5-year prison sentence for the use of a gun in such a case.”Nobody was checking those, or least…

Filmmaker Zack Snyder is back with another movie for Netflix. In space fantasy epic “Rebel Moon,” a small colony on the outskirts of the galaxy is targeted by the insidious empire. It was apparently inspired by Akira Kurosawa’s seminal film, “Seven Samurai.” The cast is, in a word, stacked. Sofia Boutella, Djimon Hounsou, Ed Skrein, Michiel Huisman, Bae Doona, Ray Fisher, Charlie Hunnam, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Cary Elwes, Corey Stoll, Jena Malone, Fra Fee, Cleopatra Coleman, Alfonso Herrera, Stuart Martin, Staz Nair, Sky Yang, Rhian Rees, E. Duffy, and Charlotte Maggi. Yeah. It’s a lot. You have a long while to…

It’s been a strange, turbulent time for RPG tabletop tentpole Dungeons & Dragons. Perhaps you’ve seen the vitriol lobbed at the franchise over the last two weeks. Io9 has the best breakdown of the situation. It really boiled down to the OGL, Open Game License, requiring royalty payments for “creatives who make more than $750,000 on products using the D&D license.” Fan response to this was swift, ugly, and resulted in lots and LOTS of subscription cancellations. The D&DBeyond subscriptions page went down from the sheer amount. This prompted parent company Hasbro to messily attempt to triage the situation. Which…

[Editor’s note: this review of HBO’s “The Last of Us” premiere comes to us from John Starling, reporter at large and man of leisure.] Theatrical video game adaptations have a notoriously checkered past. Not every video game can or should be adapted into something for the big or small screen. But “The Last Of Us” always seemed like a shoe-in for a screen adaption. It was a multi-award-winning game with a strong story, good acting, and was a best-seller. The original game (sometimes now referred to as the “Last Of Us Part 1”) has been re-released and remastered multiple times,…

If you are of a certain age and/or played a lot of Guitar Hero II, chances are you know all about the majesty of Trogdor The Burninator. Maybe he was a man, maybe he was a dragon man, or maybe he was just a dragon. But he was still Trogdor. A flash cartoon created by Homestarrunner’s Mike and Matt Chapman, the character was first introduced in Strong Bad email #58, “Dragon.” He quickly became a favorite, probably due to the epic song. Trogdor has now known life as the above video, a computer game, a bonus track on Guitar Hero…

Oh, nameless sources on the internet. Is there anything you won’t claim? Factual casting information? Naaaaw. Real, honest-to-goodness leads? Not in THIS place, friend! At least we have personalties like DC Studios’ co-head James Gunn to weed through some of the more egregious rumors; giving us the ultimate primary source. Today’s little chestnut is the frankly outlandish rumor concerning a new face as Superman. Jacob Elordi (“The Kissing Booth,” “Euphoria”) has apparently been suggested as taking on the mantle of the Last Son of Krypton. Online ‘sources’ claim this choice came from Gunn, for one of his upcoming projects for…

The great Mel Brooks making a sequel to “History of the World Part 1?” We kind of thought it was a joke. It’s absolutely NOT, as a teaser for the upcoming series was released today.
