Opinion: Infantile President Throws Tantrum to Close Kennedy Center

Convicted felon and current U.S. President, Donald Trump, is an infant, parading around as a man. While this statement is hyperbolic, his recent reported comments indicate he is grossly immature. But everyone should already know this. There is nothing political about looking at Trump’s handling of the Kennedy Center and saying, “This is childish.” Because objectively, it is. And now he’s come to the level of effectively saying, “If I can’t have it, no one can.” Like a petulant, selfish, moronic, asshole child.

    Summarizing the Kennedy Center Madness

We have previously reported and kept up with developments surrounding the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. To summarize things up to this point, though, we’ll give a brief rundown. The center opened in 1971. The name was approved by Congress in honor of the late president, John F. Kennedy. The purpose of the center was to provide a place dedicated to recognizing performing arts, as a tribute to Kennedy, and it has stood as such.

Unfortunately for the world itself, Trump is a monstrous demagogue. He does not care for anyone but himself. He wants to be recognized for a greatness that he does not possess. And as other demagogues have done, he keeps attempting to build monuments to himself. That’s why he wanted to add his name to the Kennedy Center and change the name to “The Trump Kennedy Center.” Note that his name was placed first.

    Destroying Democracy: A Microcosm

At first, Trump couldn’t do this because the board didn’t approve it. Not to mention, only Congress can change the name. Legally, that’s how it works. Congress gave it the name; only Congress can change it. So, Trump fired the entire board and reinstated it with people loyal to him. Which, again, is not normal behavior for someone interested in democracy.

Then the board changed the name to put Trump’s name on the center. A federal judge struck that down as illegal. So then the board started pushing to add the phrase “Restored and Renovated by Donald J. Trump.” Then that was struck down by the same judge. That’s when the threats started about how there might not be money to renovate this dangerously unstable building that the Democrats let fall apart. All of this led the board to vote to close the center, complete with a phone call with Trump the child.

    Man-Child’s Phone Call Tantrum

Former board member Joyce Beatty spoke about what happened on Tuesday, September 15th. “I think it would be unthinkable for someone to hear a president use the language that he used. He threw a tantrum.” Trump also bizarrely started turning things into a personal attack against people, trying to blame them for potential deaths. “He wanted to blame me if someone died, if something happened, if the ceiling fell in.” Meanwhile, if the place is in disrepair, literally nothing is stopping that from happening. Trump just wants his name on it and doesn’t want to do anything positive unless he gets his name there.

That’s why there has been so much nonsense that Trump and the board members have been spewing out about money for renovations. Trump is trying to say that they can’t get money to fix the place unless his name is there. Which is obvious bullshit. The question of whether or not the building is in disrepair is also debatable. Trump and the board will have you believe the place is a death trap. They cited a ceiling collapse that could’ve killed someone. Except if you look at the picture of the “collapse,” it’s a small piece of ceiling. Like a small square.

    No Excuse For This Situation

But let’s try to go through what’s wrong with all of this, even if certain elements are true. Let’s say that the Kennedy Center does need repairs. How extensive are they? Where’s the evidence of that extent? Why does Trump’s name need to be present to make those repairs happen? What about the money Congress allotted for the center in 2025?

Furthermore, why doesn’t the board want to follow the law? No other president has felt the need to put their name on the building. No other president has violated the law that states only Congress can change the name. What is the obsession with having Trump’s name on the building? None of this is normal, professional, or sane behavior. And far too many people just seem to be okay with it happening.

    Calling Out Bullshit

Fuck them. Fuck all of them that think this is okay. This has been played down by people, but remember when Trump called a female reporter, Piggy? The leader of the free world demeaned a woman, to her face, because he didn’t like her asking him questions. Depending on what he was thinking when he said it, we’re talking about a comment that was sexist and body-shaming. And perhaps worse, his cronies in the White House defended him as being frank and honest.

When you have that kind of disgusting level of support for your fucking childish attitude, no wonder you’re going to deny the country a building because you can’t have your name on it. It’s the same principle guiding both of these situations. Give the baby what they want and defend him despite him actually being a disgusting piece of fucking filth. Journalistic tone my ass, call the monster out for what he goddamn is.

    Standing For What is Right

The Kennedy Center was intended for the public. It’s a place to highlight art. Art makes us strong. Art lets us speak truth to power or emotions to the public. You may not agree with the message or the aesthetic of something. You may not even want to showcase something because of what it represents. But you should not shut down a venue for the arts just because your name can’t be placed on it. The Kennedy Center was named for a singular man, but it stands for something greater. Donald Trump doesn’t care about that, just like he doesn’t care about anyone but himself.

Are the people defending and backing him better or worse? Can’t say. They’re enabling a monster to continue his reign of terror. When Trump’s name goes down in history for the fucked up idiot that he is, their names deserve to be written beside him. Democracy is dying, and they are enabling it. America should be better than this. Maybe one day we will be again.
