Brendan Fraser is on fire! The Oscar-winning actor came to The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on May 7, 2026 to tell fans: The Mummy 4 is coming, and Fraser’s already getting ready for it.

Fraser let Fallon know he is getting back into action-hero mode for the film by saying, “Please wish me luck. I’m doing my best to get this 57-year-old gear in shape.”

Those comments were the most specific to date from the actor regarding the fourth film in the beloved original The Mummy series, released nearly 20 years ago.

Fraser confirmed he is returning as the action hero in question and told Fallon, “Well, we’re going to get the band back together. The only way to do it. So, we’re going to give the audience what they have been bothering all of us for the last 20-whatever years.”

Fraser also hinted as to what the new film will entail, but didn’t want to be too generous on Fallon and revealed the film will “saddle back up, go back to the locations,” before adding, “I should probably stop talking like this, because I don’t want to give everything away.”

Fraser was open about the bumpy journey to getting the film made.

He was open about the bumpy journey to getting the film made. The Mummy franchised turned north after The Mummy Returns in 2001. Rachel Weisz did not return for 2008’s Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, and Maria Bello replaced her as Evelyn. And, was a fourth chapter even possible?

“I was hopeful for a long while, and then I was like, ‘I don’t know if they are.’ Other Mummy movies got made.”

    Fraser told Fallon

Fraser and Rachel Weisz have deals to return, and John Hannah to reprise his role as Evelyn’s brother Jonathan. The Mummy 4 directors have also apparently made it clear that the Tomb of the Dragon Emperor should not be considered canon.

    Behind the camera

Universal assigned the film to Radio Silence, the director duo of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who directed Ready or Not and the latest Scream reboots. The script is by writer David Coggeshall.

Filming should start up in August. Universal has expedited the release of The Mummy 4, from its original 2028 schedule to late 2027.

Fraser’s earlier years in the franchise were grueling. He has documented the health issues and injuries that came with it. He had spinal surgery and a knee replacement. In a 2018 GQ profile, he admitted he had been “trying too hard” at performing those “destructive” things as stunts. That’s when he left action films for drama.

Whether his current training means a full return to stunt work or a more measured approach remains unclear. Either way, Fraser seems fully committed. In recent years, he’s experienced a major career resurgence, culminating in his 2023 Academy Award win for The Whale. Now, he’s stepping back into the world that first made him a star.
