Do you remember in the 00’s when Hit Clips came out? They were basically little cartridges that played 60 seconds of your favorite songs. They featured bands like N’SYNC and Britney Spears and kids and teens carried them everywhere. Now through the last Pokémon Direct broadcast that dropped a few days ago, we know that their new Game Boy system will be similar to the nostalgic Hit Clips that we used to play with.
We previously reported the Game Boy Jukebox when we covered the entire Pokémon Direct but it goes without saying that it deserves another shout out. Especially since people probably focused more on the adorable new starters that are being introduced in Pokémon Wind/Waves.
The Game Boy Jukebox will have 45 songs/cartridges to start with. It’s unclear at this point if they will work like amiibos where the cartridges will unlock the song already stored in the Game Boy or if the cartridges will be necessary to carry all of the time. I would hope that once it sees you own the song you would be able to carry it around and play it similar to an MP3 player.
Start your musical adventure with “Title Screen,” then journey onward with classics like “Professor Oak,” “Pewter City Theme,” and “Rocket Hideout.” Do your best to stay awake through “Jigglypuff’s Song,” keep an eye out for ghostly apparitions during “Lavender Town Theme,” and finish up with “Ending Theme.” There’s no shortage of ear Wurmple in this collection that’s sure to evoke memories of setting out on your very own Pokémon journey.
