IHOP Attempts World Record Pancake Order this Weekend

Pancakes; the breakfast staple that is so popular a restaurant chain put it right in their name. The International House of Pancakes isn’t exactly the healthiest place to eat but when you want a variety of pancakes and syrup, you can’t beat the IHOP. Unless you worked there you probably would have a hard time guessing how many pancakes they serve in an 8-hour shift. We can’t say we know either, but we do know the restaurant is looking to set a world record for it on Saturday, March 1st.

You may know that March 4th is National Pancake Day. In preparation for that, IHOP is preparing the “20K for Pancake Day” event. It’ll be taking place on the Santa Monica Pier from 9am – 5pm in Los Angeles. The goal, as the title suggests, is to serve 20,000 pancakes to participants. In addition to trying to set a world record, the event also serves a charitable purpose. For every pancake that gets served, the restaurant chain will donate a dollar to Feeding America which helps the LA Regional Food Bank. Only thing more fitting would be if they donated silver dollars. Since that’s a form of pancake.

The current record is held by the Calgary Stampede in Alberta, Canada. They accomplished the feat of serving over 17,000 pancakes within 8 hours, back in July of 2023.

It’s the kind of competition you just don’t think about happening too often. Then again, there’s also a Guinness category for largest grilled cheese sandwich. We covered that back in 2023 and a surprising amount of work went into it. There’s going to be a lot of work put into this upcoming record attempt as well, and it’s nice to know that the energy will be put towards a charitable cause as well.

If you can’t make it to Los Angeles for the record attempt, remember that National Pancake Day is still a thing you can go to IHOP for. The restaurant is offering up free short stacks of pancakes from 7am to 8pm. Enjoy them while you can! They’ll be selling like hot cakes!
