EA Announces Single-Player “Black Panther” Game

Marvel Games is partnering with Electronic Arts (EA) to create a new original, third-person, single-player “Black Panther” game. EA’s studio Cliffhanger Games is handling the development. Cliffhanger is led by Kevin Stephens, the previous studio head Monolith Productions, the developer known for “Shadow of Mordor.”

“We’re dedicated to delivering fans a definitive and authentic Black Panther experience, giving them more agency and control over their narrative than they have ever experienced in a story-driven video game,” Stephens said in a press release for the title.

Marvel Games and EA are in an ongoing partnership to produce at least three titles. Marvel parent company Disney is continuing its trend of partnering with big name studios to produce games for their biggest properties.

Examples of this trend include partnerships with the developer Insomniac (“Ratchet & Clank”) for other Marvel titles involving characters like Wolverine and Spider-Man, Eidos Montreal’s “Guardians of the Galaxy,” and an upcoming “Indiana Jones” game from Lucasfilm Games and the team behind Wolfenstein.

As an avid single-player, story driven gamer, I am very interested in how this new title turns out. It seems like these days most games are focused on being multi-player shooters, so any single-player story game immediately catches my eye.

There is no set release date for the game, or any information about what platforms you will be able to play on. We’ll let you know what we hear about this and other news.
